Are you sure, I seem to remember that we cut our caps. Be interesting to compare caps from 2000 and current day.

I am 100% sure.

It changed the face of Development Squad football at the time. What was a free service to the community became a user pays system, which stank. Since the re-introduction of the funding, things have become much fairer.

At no time have the SANFL adjusted the salary cap, other than to increase it slightly.

Then I'll concede that one, hate it when I'm mistaken...not wrong, only mistaken!

The WAFL is still the WAFL, although all but one club are so close to the edge that I wouldn't doubt they'll bend over for a couple of dollars.
It's all the SANFL's fault.

Doesn't the WA Football Commission run footy though Barto? They also pay for a lot of the employment at the WAFL clubs, with money from the AFL I believe.

The competitions will remain SANFL, WAFL, VFL while the administrations will become AFLSA, AFLWA (or WAAFL) and AFLVIC (that one has already happened).

Dont you love it.

In one corner we have Mr Demitriwho wanting to turn the game into to a sanatised product with limited warfare or should I so no warfare and a game of skill and speed (boy theat sounds like netball or basketball) and he just wants to maximise the money that his corporation can make whilst attempting to appease the masses.

In the other we have the SANFL who seem incapable of making a decision until they are pushed back itno the deepest darkest corner. No initiative at all comes from the helm, other than to take every step to make sure they can not be sued. (for **** sake why cant boundary umpires jump a fence to go get the football I thought it was there job to get the ball and throw it in, it makes all the kids doing it look like wankers)

You can just see demitrio going ok we will put the idea to the sanfl, they wont do it, then demitrio using all his media and marketing nouse to sell it to the public without it coming from him, put financial pressure on the sanfl. Eventually the sanfl gets backed into a corner and makes a decision

SANFL could get on the front foot and say give us 2.5m (or whatever figure they want) or we wont allow AFL listed players to play in our competition, The AFL need the SANFL because they would not want to finance a national reserves competition.

As for what was said about the country leagues that sounds stupid

SA might start producing more draftable players if it had the funds to get recent AFL footballers involved in the development like the TAC does. The amount of money they chuck at football in there own back yard is incredible.

WAFC is a friggin joke. The clubs are always bitching about it. They mainly care about the Eagles and Dockers.. the WAFL is in a sad sad state at the moment.

Nothings changed since the Eagles joined then Barto.
In 87 when the Eagles joined 7 out of the 8 clubs were insolvent and the VFL was meant to be the cashed up saviour they needed.
If they waited and we had a TRULY national comp where Claremont would play West Adelaide then maybe the clubs WOULD be financial.

So this would mean that football development in SA receives less funding from the AFL than Mr Demetriou receives in personal funding from the AFL???????????????

Isn't it funny how what is supposed to be the governing body for the game, which compete with other sports (Rugby League, Soccer etc), is also competing against someone who plays the same code? You know why that is, but that just sounds crazy to me.
