Wasnt Campbell recruited from norwood to the crows? Doesnt matter if they r afl listed players they still play for the NFC.

Yes, as was Lower.
Kite came to Norwood by default in a way - he was the last player left in the mini-draft and Norwood had the last pick. However, he has certainly improved this year.

Re Weatherald - I cant understand why Wicks was invited back by Sturt to play this year yet Weatherald was told to earn his spot. Wicks has always been and remains a massive receiver.

Also spotted in the crowd Mal was umpire Colin Rowston - a Sturt supporter for his whole life.

Full credit to norwood for not lying down in the last qtr when sturt could of easily won by 6-7 goals.

Exactly how I saw the game
Excellent summary

is it an excellent summary because of the summary or because he agrees with you mal ?

ps, i agree with that summary as well

give us a break his brother played for port & he was the one umpire we knew would crucify us in games against port, while on the other hand i thought laurie argent used to help us a bit albeit he's a centrals man i believe

oh & off course peter mead used to 'help' port a lot as well

Poor selections, poor matchups, stupid turnovers and a refusal to manup Nelson is why Norwood lost. Dont let the margin fool anyone, Strut owned us after 1/2 time and if they kicked straight would have buried us. No such thing as a "good" loss, only winning matters and I'm angry we couldnt do it after 1/2 time. As for T. Hill, the jury is still out.

From what I understand, Wicks wasn't "invited", he approached the club, did a great preseason and earnt his spot. He had no prior relationship with the coach(es) having not played in 2007 and was not promised a spot on the senior list. To imply he didn't earn his spot is rediculous.

Tim Weatherald on the other hand, did the same preseason, was told he was not gauranteed a spot in the first 21 and quit. (lets face no-one should be gauranteed a league game before the season starts).

You can be as fit as you like during pre-season but its match play that counts. Wicks is a survivor against all odds because he is definitely a genuine receiver. I thought he won his position today which says very little for his opponent, because he picked up nothing but cheap possessions. Even some of my Sturt mates wonder how he keeps getting games year in and out. On the flipside maybe he does something that is lacking in football so often - creates space to enable the switch and if that works I guess he earns a spot. Just frustrating to see a player who seems to shirk the contested ball, get so much of it.

oh jeez, wicks has a role on the team and he plays it well, he played it so well it helped the club win a flag. Wicks has been sensational this year from the reports on db.org and through listening on the radio. He is about 90lbs, I will let him play as wide as the ******* car park as he is so good at it. Do you expect all ruckman to be at the bottom of every pack? No. You have certain players for that. Please tell me you understand that role of a player? Surely the legs have a player that plays on the wing and his role is to be a receiver*? Maybe you are just bitter your team lost a game it should have won if it was any good by ripping into a premiership player, something your team doesnt have.

i still wish timmy was at the club but he chose a diff path. Seems to be enjoying it at the legs and playing good footy, good on him, he is always welcome back at the club as he is a champion of the SFC.

The Colonel is on the money too.

Mate, I could fill volumes with players like that. I guess they realise at a young age that they just don't have the physical capabilities to mix it one-on-one so they model their game around running into space and creating the opportunities for others downfield. It takes all kinds to make a football team.

I'm a little like you though. It annoys me when players who base their whole careers around winning the uncontested footy are rated highly as footballers. I'm very much "old school". To me, a good footballer is someone who wins contested footy, both in the air and on the ground, and doesn't waste much of the ball in disposal. Not too many of these playing AFL these days.

No way Aishy was just a receiver, Damien Obst would be closer to the mark ... Agree with Jimmy, there is a clear role for these types if they are good enough and as much as he's frustrated me over the years, Wicks has stood the test of time.

He's good. Reminds me of a (really old) joke:

This years grand final will be played between North Adelaide and Torrens.
It's all the SANFL's fault.

The audible booing from the crowd (listening in on LIFE FM) when Mr. Weatherald was taking a shot on goal at some point in the second half suggests that the Sturt fans did more ripping into premiership players than did the Norwood fans.

I do hope that the more level-headed Sturt fans told these pillocks to pull their heads in.
