Again, not SANFL, but the Jason Snell injury was quite horrific. To see the boot just dangling like that with the bone sticking right out in the sock was awful (and that was just on TV). Imagine what the players and umpires on the ground would have been thinking with him screaming in agony and seeing that.

This is actually not a nice thread.

Sorry if its been mentioned on here - but wasn't it Barratt as well who went to jump over a fence at footy training but his wedding ring got stuck and part of his finger got ripped off..

Agree with Greg Edwards injury - was there that day.

But Neil Sache's injury must be the worst one I have heard about - he was made a paraplegic

Agree with many of these, to my memory Eichner and Barratt would be the worst.

I have a vague memory of a Port player getting his nose broken at Footy Park in the mid nineties - was it Roger Delaney? The way his nose was hanging afterwards did not look at all healthy...

The clash of heads between Simon Tregenza and a Norwood player in the '97 GF was also quite sickening. Happened right in front of me.

Hodges leg was bad! I think early 95?

That clash in the 97 wasn't far from where I was sitting, the Legs player had blood coming from his head everywhere!

There is a clip of it on you tube, out of respect I wont post the link. If you type in 1995 Glenelg v Port Adelaide it should come up
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

Toddy Davey, great display of courage and focus by both boys.

Spelly beat me to it, but Jason Snell's injury rates up there as one of the worst.

Ditto mate. I was there with two Geelong supporters and they were getting abused left right and centre. Unfortunately all our scarves looked the same, so I too copped it. I had to 'unfurl' my scarf and let people abusing me (Carlton supporters) know that I was ahem, one of them.

I remember David Hutton attempting to lay a tackle and coming away with his arm bending the wrong way at the elbow. Pretty confronting!

As for the Hodges ankle injury, I've seen the aftermath. Massive scar tissue that really makes a mess of his Premiership Tattoo.

Worst injury I saw was a broken jaw in a cheer squad match, in about '85 or '86. Sturt vs North at Prospect Oval.
Sturt lad over the ball two North lads over him, another North lad comes running in from a distance.....boot, jaw, all over sunshine.
Can't be 100% sure who did it with the 3 North lads there. But perhaps that boot should have stayed on the dance floor where it would have done less damage.
I'm gonna sit back, crack the top off a Pale Ale, and watch the Double Blues prevail

Yeah, reckon I might have been at that game then, and I would have seen it first hand (pardon the punt) OUCH !!!

The reason I thought it was v Central was I reckon it might have been a double header at finals time and Sturt v Eagles were the early game before the Dogs played the late one ??? I think ?? Not sure who we played if that was the case ???

I'm sure there has been a few bad injuries in years gone by with the brick wall so close to boundary line down at Coopers Stadium, The Parade ???
Anyone got any examples of some incidents from this that have happened in years gone by ???

Centrals didn't play in a finals match at Adelaide until 2006, Phil (other than in the early 70's). You must have been on a scouting mission.

Hey Smac,

You're right mate...

We must have already got through to the GF and that was when the SANFL was only playing the Prelim' at Adelaide Oval...

I must have been there watching the game hoping they beat the hell out of each other and checking out who was gonna play us in the GF

Must try and catch up down at the Bay on Sunday if you're going ??? I kept an eye for you on Anzac Day with your son in his Gowans Gurnsey but I couldn't see him.

Might see ya at Challenge Recruitment Oval on Sunday mate, take it easy...

Cheers,
