I don't know about other games but in six months time you will hear

Rd 1 South Adelaide versus Glenelg

Jason Torney 3 votes....

Given the way South will use him and the relative lack of others in the South side to take votes off him I expect it to be the first of many votes
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

Well, I'm not sure about this season. Perrie, Torney, Archard all started well but given I don't see much of them it's a little hard to judge properly. Needless to say I've not seen too many opposition players do that much damage to us in the last 8 years!

However, I'm going to try to do better. My pick for MM 2009: Andrew Hayes. Marks like a tall, runs like a small and starting to really find his feet. AFL might just have passed him by but he's exactly the sort of player to attract attention and I think next season will get enough ball from half back to get the votes.

Wild guess seeing it's only one round in, but I'll go with Cutterman's choice.

Although just to be a hippocrite, I think Tas with Torney has a fair point, and would be happy to see it happen.....tied with Craney.

Don't understand why Thornton's aren't running a Magarey book.

North has 4 gun on ballers any one of them could win allan, archard, obrien and I reckon if Ladhams stays sound and off the booze this year he could give it a shake.

OK, so no bets on Ladhams then...

I would be surprised if James Allan or Ian Callinan aren't this seasons winner.

Mind you, Allen only played about 35 mins today and almost got into the top 3 with that effort.

Archard good player but will go missing in the big pressure games and when his hit real hard like he did for South. Can't handle the pressure al la quitting football because it got a little tough for him.
Callinan should win it. Absolutly light years ahead of anyone in the SANFL as the most influential player in the league.

Why didn't Callinan win it last year if he is that good according to you??? Callinan is prone to be out of game for long periods but has the ability to have an explosive 1/2 or full quarter and completely turn a game but to say he is light years ahead of anyone in terms of influencing a game is stretching it a bit?. The most influential player(s) in the league IMHO would be the Gowans (as hard as that is to admit! )

I think the clear difference between Callinan and Allen was shown in last years GF. Second quarter Allen wins the ball from the ruck contest thirty out and on a 45 degree angel all by himself and sprays it out abounds on the fall. Central take the ball all the way down the field and Callinan kicks one of the goals of the season dancing past three hapless North defenders and slotting it home on a tight angel.
Callinan is cleary the most skilled player in the SANFL, it is a no contest to who is better between Callinan and Allen unfortunatly the best player doesn't always win the magarey medal.
A highlight reel of all his goals last year would be a highlight reel of nearly all the best goals kicked in the SANFL last year.
