Prior to the computing age all counting statred with 1. The zero came into play when 10 was reached. The coming of computers and binary code led to 0 coming before 1 and caused the confusion about the millenium.

This is ridiculous. There are more posts on decades and milleniums than the topic itself!

FWIW I think a decade starts at 00 and ends at 09. It changes when the 'tens' column varies. Same principal for a century and a millenium. Even roman numerals change at these points - x, c, m for 10, 100 and 1000.

Well, I guess there is that difference between the "general, incorrect" term for a decade, and the "not so general, correct" term for a decade in years. While incorrect, most people will identify 1990 with the 90s, regardless.

Come back & see us in 26 years.

We'll still be around then, how about your lot?

That's a very interesting point, you may be right about us not being around. My understanding was that when the Power joined the AFL the Magpies in the SANFL would be disbanded. I'm still wondering when that will happen.

No, they are 1 second old, 1 minute old, I week old, 1 month old, 1 year old, as they get to each milestone!

Just to clarify, what I actually said to Rushby was that if Port did not win in 2008 then it would be at least 10 years between flags, and I believed that would be the only instance of that in our history...

But I was wrong.

It has occurred twice previously:
1939-51 (although there was a war on!)
1965-77

Rushby was pissed at the time. And so was I.

That is our excuse. Now, back to your meals.
