Soujourner, how did Westies do WELL to get Moran ?
They had 1st pick so they could take whoever they wanted. I would have thought doing well is picking up someone who you rate, thats managed to slip thru.

Hope the Lomas rumour is just that - but I'll only believe it when it's official.

I'll bet Power fans are happy Eagles did not choose one of their players again.

I heard that Hier and Lomas had left the club because they had to train basically every day of the week. Hopefully they will return after Xmas because the squad is looking a bit thin for next year.

Some reasoning has to be done there, if that is true. This is also what happens when players aren't paid what they should be paid according to the effort they put in, thanks to the salary cap.

With all the talk about Walker (see Norwood vs North Port Match Review for Rd 15), I thought it would be interesting to recall which players went where and at what number, in the mini-draft.

When we got Kite I wondered what we would be getting with the last pick, but he has been great on the wing and even better in a defensive role this year. Plays tall and runs like the wind - happy to carry the ball with him too. Walker needs no more accolades.

Lobbe and Farmer seem to have had good reports this season, but I'd be interested in comments on how these guys have gone at your respective clubs this year, and whether (with the benefit of heinsight) you would have taken the player you did with your first pick?

lobbe has been playing the ressies for the maggies and has been doing quite well getting in the best players a few times. Hopefully will see him play league before the end of the season. farmer has also been a good pick up for sturt, a very consistent player who also has been in the best players for the league team. Not sure about doyle -

So to answer my question, who should West have taken at no 1 or do you think it was the right decision at the time?

Daniel Boyle has been pretty good for Centrals but after playing in the league side in Round 1 (getting reported against Port Magpies) he has battled a bit with form and a hammy strain. The last few weeks he has been playing good footy in the 2's and actually got BOG on the weekend (against Port Magpies !!?) so he might not be too far away from League selection. Maybe just tries to do too much with the ball sometimes and can be prone to turn it over but loves to back himself in with run and carry, which he can do well because he is a well built lad.

Ryan Williams was picked by Centrals in the mini draft in 2007 and played all last year in the reserves. Has come on in leaps and bounds this year to play most league games (missed a couple with a hammy also from memory) this season and regularly get in the best players. Has a great worl ethic, also runs with the ball and doesn't mind getting the hard ball. maybe just needs to work on disposal by foot a bit more, can miss tragets pretty easily sometimes.

Moran has been injured most of the season. He's played 2 very good games and a couple of ordinary games. It's too early to judge him, but I think he'll be very good value when he settles in.

We haven't had much luck. We took Kurt Tippett and Robbie Gray last year and they both slotted into Adelaide and Port and we haven't seen them much since.

Next year we'll have Dangerfield if he takes time to get into the Crows line-up, but I suspect the same will happen with him.

Jacky was just starting to look ok when he got injured. Hasn't been great for us, but think we'll get some value from him next year, before he either gets delisted or becomes a regular with the Crows.

According to the Adelaide Crows injury list in today's Advertiser, Myke is struggling with a hamstring strain and it lists his comeback as "indefinite"

Andy Otten has been amongst the best players for South pretty much every week, he has been the "emergency" for the Crows three times yet still has'nt gotten a game as yet to my knowledge.

I am not sure of the length of contract that he was offered, yet if it is a one year deal and he goes into the draft at the end of the year he will go pretty early on as he could get a game at an AFL side if the position available was one that he plays. He clearly is an AFL standard player and will do very well in the next few years at AFL level.

I have seen Aaron Kite play a few times for Norwood and have been very much impressed with the way he has gone about his game, still has a way to go of course, but dont be surprised if he gets his chance next season with the Crows!

Curnow is progressing nicely after initially missing the first five weeks with a quad strain. Is now starting to play some goods 2s footy and has made our best players list recently in the 2s.

Will play 1s footy next year.

IMO the lay down misere for best mini-draftee is Mitch Farmer at Sturt. The kid can play - both sides - and hits targets. Will not be surprised if he gets a game in the next few weeks. In tehg ames I've seen he has impressed me more than what Walker has who would be next best IMO.
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

For what its worth, what I saw of Myke Cook was very impressive. Had a real touch of flair and dash to him, and willing to take on the opponent. Tony Armstrong's games that I've seen have had a real touch of magic to them at times also. Dashes clear and generally delivers the ball well to the next target. Can understand that decisions on promotion would be largely up to the AFL clubs, but he has a touch of class worth watching. Have to feel for Curnow a bit, as it would be very hard for a player of his ilk to break into the senior line-up at the moment, but puts his head over the ball to win the contested possession. Fully agree with Sojourner on Otten though - genuine class that, if nutured properly, should give him a long AFL career.

Sojourner...

Andy otten is on the Crows list and actually made his debut about a month ago, got a late call up after maybe Brent Rielly pulled out of one of the night games the Crows played. He is impressive from what I've seen and I hear the Crows hold him in high regard. No doubt, they will be keen to find and blood developing midfielders and with Andy's size and engine, think he will be a quality on baller at the highest level in the coming seasons.

I have also seen Aaron Kite play a few times for the Legs and that boy certainly uses his "legs" as he ikes to run and carry the ball. He's got a bit of pace about him and can go in and get the hard ball. His skills are pretty reasonable as well which is why I think he has been named in Norwood's best players on quite a few occassions now. I think he has missed a couple recently with a hammy or something like that ???

I haven't seen much of Ed Curnow, I think he is the one that wears a helmet and has been playing in the 2's down at the Bay, so I can't really comment on him, I'm sure a few Glenelg supporters can give us their opinion of young Ed. I have seen Tony Armstrong a couple of times in North's reserves and although a little undersized, he was impressive from what I saw of him. Reckon he won the game for the Roosters magoos back on Anzac Day when they played Centrals. Has run, uses the ball and seemed pretty poised. Think he might have made his league debut with North by now, possibly even last weekend, but not sure.

The other young impressive Crow is James Moss, a rookie listed player. He gave up a potential cricket career (as a wicket keeper / batsmen) to play footy instead. The local Willaston lad from the Barossa League started the year in Centrals reserves side and was very very consistant. I think he then had a foot injury, came back to good form in the reserves and has now played the last 3 league games for the Dogs. He too has a good engine, good size, uses the ball and is a great overhead mark. I hope he gets promoted to the senior list eventually, and may yet get that opportunity with Burton going down, the Crows can put him on the long term injury list. I'm not sure if there is a deadline for that and if so, I would say we have probably passed it by now.
