Why pick on our zone with Mt Gambier??

Why not Gawler - probably got a bigger population than Mt Gambier now with all the development out towards Lyndoch and around Evanston.

People fail to realise that you put a team in from the country it affects all the other nine clubs with their zones and for the club that used to have that zone the effects could potentially be fatal with respect to competitiveness.

FWIW if we have to have a tenth team I say try and attract the Sydney reserves - it automatically gives our clubs a toe-nail hold in Australia's biggest market with respect to sponsors and sponsor promotion.
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

I agree here

If the SANFL has to go to 10 teams then it has to be an interstate side from either Darwin/Tasmainia/Sydney starting a team from scratch inside SA would cause too much bickering over who gets what recruiting zone

If the SANFL wants to expand how about we give the option to Fitzroy and North Melbourne to join the SANFL. Real clubs, with real supporters, playing footy the way it should be played in a traditional league that has weathered the storm and is fighting back.

WHat about Fitzroy and South Melbourne? - Still have a bye though. Maybe North Melbourne as well then.

I quite like this idea, real out of the box thinking IMO.
Don't know if it could work but definitely worth going through and adding up everything to see if it is a chance. First issue I'd consider is if Fitzroy were to reform wouldn't the new VFL be more appealing to them, seeing as there'd be so much less travelling?
But then would we be underestimating the lure of the 2nd best league in the land?
This is what interests me so much about the idea, having one or two ex-AFL clubs would increase the SANFL's status around the country, it would give it a feel of a second division rather than a second best league. Of course it would remain a seperate entity, and there would not be any clubs going up and down between the leagues, but it would begin to resemble a league consisting of all the second tier clubs from around the country, in much the same way that a second division is consisted of all the second best clubs from whatever region they play in.
This means greater interest in the SANFL.
If it works, hence I think it is worth a real look.
I'm gonna sit back, crack the top off a Pale Ale, and watch the Double Blues prevail

definitely out side the square and they might be interested as a way of shoving it up the AFL for stabbing them in the back.

I'm sure Roylion would appreciate having Fitzroy back in action in a semi professional comp

Not really an issue, Fitzroy FC Ltd still exist as a separate business entity although they don't have an independent playing operation as such (they sponsor the Fitzroy Reds in the VAFA)

http://www.fitzroyfc.com.au

Also I watched the NTAFL on Foxtel over the wekend and the commentators there seemed to indicate that the NT team in the SANFL was almost a certainity in 2009 and they were basically talking about it as being 'done'.
Centrals 16.11 107 North 5.12 42 the dynasty continues .
