Yes, but didnt want ot enter the comp, hence why the comp is mostly bullflop.
That's a bit of a circular argument isn't it?
The competition is meaningless, so we aren't going to enter.
We didn't enter so you can't determine any meaning from the outcome.
Well done to Port, North and West for having some courage to take part. Invaluable experience for the younger kids at Port especially who got to travel to Sydney and Perth as a team.
The refusal of the 5 higher ranked SANFL clubs to take part was nothing but arrogance. I hope the AFL remembers that when inviting teams for future editions.
Sure, the priemoney is not massive, but what were they expecting...
My understanding is that Centrals could do with the money anyway.
arrogance

21 players per match
4 matches
$476 per player, per match.
Compared to a $350,000 salary cap for a 20 match minor round (apologies if I'm slightly off the mark with the cap, but it's close enough to prove the point):
21 players per match
20 matches
$833 per player, per match.
Even for a club that played 4 finals, that equates to $694 per player, per match.
Take out expenses of playing in the comp and that money doesn't actually exist, does it?

exactly... arrogance!
but maybe it didn't suit centrals... maybe they just wanted to concentrate on another SANFL flag...
I dunno about the other posters here, but if my club had dominated the SANFL for a decade then I'd actually like to see them try to benchmark that success on a national stage... I know my club tried to do that in 1990...
I just think they weren't prepared to put their balls on the line.

Once again, it is of interest to the supporters of teams representing their leagues. Plus I'm sure it is of interest to those who are avid football fans. Then there are those who have had a bet on it. Whoever wins this cup will be declared the best side outside of the AFL, and rightly so.

Nope, different to me. I'd rather they try to win another SANFL flag, the reason they compete. I didn't give a stuff about "benchmarking", comparisons or any other irrelevant games. I would have thought your team would be more concerned on performing in the competition they play in. So what if they could beat Claremont, or whoever another team was, isn't it more important to beat Norwood and the sides they compete against for the whole football year? Look at the ladder if you want a comparison. They played North in one game, that would have been a rewarding "benchmark" game. The clubs gave their reasons, nothing to do "with balls on the line'. I notice where the clubs are currently that didn't participate.
It would be like saying to the years Premier you play against whatever AFL team has the bye when you have the bye. It will be interesting to see how you compete. Why would they bother?
I guess if Port had actually made it to the final and won, and finished the SANFL season in their current sixth position, at least they'd have something to be happy about. Fair enough if your team hasn't been good in one league try to win something else. I'll concede in some cases they may deem participation has no detrimental affect to their SANFL performance.
It will be interesting to see if offered, if the same clubs would participate again next year.
