Sorry Sojourner - It can't suggest WA is the best comp outside the AFL, simply because we will never know if Claremont would have beaten any of the top SA teams, as they didn't want to compete.
It definately means they are one of the 2 best state league teams who competed in the comp.

Writings on the wall regardless whether the current top teams here in SA played or not, WA teams had a crack & wern't scared.
They proved they are better than us full stop.

Winning a one off game against a struggling SA club proves nothing. I suggest you revisit the meaning of the word "prove".

Best way to compare is to talk to players who played both competitions, but there will never be real proof of something like that.

Would make no difference which side it was, the top three SANFL sides would still struggle to get within three goals of the Tigers.

Teams like Centrals and Norwood would flog Claremont.

That's a bit of a circular argument isn't it?

The competition is meaningless, so we aren't going to enter.
We didn't enter so you can't determine any meaning from the outcome.

Well done to Port, North and West for having some courage to take part. Invaluable experience for the younger kids at Port especially who got to travel to Sydney and Perth as a team.

The refusal of the 5 higher ranked SANFL clubs to take part was nothing but arrogance. I hope the AFL remembers that when inviting teams for future editions.

Sure, the priemoney is not massive, but what were they expecting...

My understanding is that Centrals could do with the money anyway.

Oh good, a Port supporter commenting on other clubs' arrogance, not much left to see now

Mate, it's 12 years since we played in a GF - we have nothing to be arrogant about. There is no arrogance at Alberton now. That element all **** off to the Power.

Can't believe how bad the start was. I'd enjoy watching a full length game between these 2 sides at full strength, including OUR AFL listed players.

Oh... Looking forward to you revisiting this comment? L-)

What rubbish, nothing arrogant about it. Won't go over old ground. Now it's over. I'm sure those competing teams got big advantages, lol. I wouldn't have a clue who sponsored those other teams, i' m sure membership numbers will increase next year because they competed, and the extra exposure. I'm sure we'll all be buying Claremont memberships next year. They got to travel as a team, big whoop. Don't see it as a disadvantage either for the competing teams, if they prefer playing than having the bye. The competition was insignificant, unless it financially cost the clubs. I couldn't give a stuff if the afl don't invite certain teams next year, if the comps even on.

Punctuation Anyone?

Poor, unsubstantiated rationale to justify a pissant decision not to participate. Enjoy the bye. Personally I've enjoyed the chance to watch my team play EVERY week.

Funny, these so called "zilch" rating seem to be enough for the Foxtel Cup to be included in the TV fixture for the next 5 years.

Yes, that $40k prizemoney to the winning club would equate to:

21 players per match
4 matches
$476 per player, per match.

Compared to a $350,000 salary cap for a 20 match minor round (apologies if I'm slightly off the mark with the cap, but it's close enough to prove the point):

21 players per match
20 matches
$833 per player, per match.

Even for a club that played 4 finals, that equates to $694 per player, per match.

Take out expenses of playing in the comp and that money doesn't actually exist, does it?

And given how close your mob are running to never playing again, I'm not surprised you enjoy watching them every week.

With all the benefits the participants in this "comp", Port, North and West received, imagine where they'd be at this stage if they didn't compete. ;)
