Or, adding to that, an SANFL player moving clubs. It does happen, you know!

The interesting things is now players only have to leave the SANFL play in the country for a year on big money and then they can join an AFL Reserves team. Call me crazy but this used to be 18 months didn't it? It should've been increased not decreased, if it was two or three years and they take away the leadership players it would've heading in the right direction. Also now that they can only be on one year contracts it's going to be interesting when the 8 SANFL clubs try to recruit these players, supposedly they are only on $400 a game right? SANFL clubs will be able to offer more then double. This will be telling the feedback from clubs who try to recruit them on what they really get paid and all the perks not included on the contract.

The SANFL teams and AFL Reserves teams are going to struggle to hold onto good players when they are getting $1000-$2000 a week even if they have to travel 4 hrs from Adelaide to play a home game

If you're seriously comparing intra SANFL club transfer/recruiting, such as Templeton to the Eagles to say Josh Glenn being rookied by the Crows this year and playing against us next season, it demonstrates you have no idea of the magnitude of damage to the integrity of the SANFL that the AFL reserves present.

100% agree, that's why the standard has dropped a bit imho, everything is against the SANFL clubs atm in regards to recruiting or holding onto players. If clubs had debts cleared or got given a larger amount from the league/AFL reserves teams to increase the salary cap we could change all that.

Your missing MY point
Yes AFL can go to AFL
SANFL can go to SANFL

But the difference is , a current SANFL player can get drafted to an AFL club which is a different comp
But by virtuso ends up playing in the SANFL again if he gets drafted by AR or PR

WILSON
A classic example to cover all bases
Wilson for Norwood has had a very good season
He was at Port[the ex SANFL Port] and was recruited by Norwood
This is SANFL to SANFL
But if Wilson gets drafted to the AFL in 2015 , thats it he should be playing in another comp.
That is if 16 of the 18 AFL clubs draft him
But if Wilson gets drafted by PP or AC he could be playing against his current club [Norwood] next year.
In fact he could play for Norwood v Port Reserves in a GF this week, and line up for Port Reserves against Norwood round 1 next season.

And this has never happened before, a player play against his old club?

Whinge thread indeed.

We used to love watching Port players carving up against the mob who paid them.

Most entertaining. Although realistically almost anyone could play well against the Maggies for the last decade or so.

Difference is the SANFL club is powerless to stop the recruiting. From SANFL club to SANFL club counter offers can be made, its a level playing field. Now if a contract / rookie contract is offered by local AFL teams, the SANFL club offers the recruit heartiest of congratulations and then take the field against them the following season.

Of course we should just accept this, pay our membership, sponsorship, volunteer our time and watch our clubs get belted by the beneficiaries of all this. And we shouldn't complain because............. Tell me Booney why shouldn't we complain?

My interpretation of a sports competition
* Where 2 or more entities compete under the same rules and regulations.*

CURRENT SANFL COMP
8 teams picking an A Grade team , and the perception it is the best available personnel on a given day
2 teams picking a B grade team , being who is leftover from its AFL team.

QUESTION
How is this meant to be a proper competition if the rules are different for 20 % of the teams to the other 80 % ?

ANSWER
My answer
Its not a proper comp anymore until:
Port Reserves and Adelaide Reserves are deleted from the comp
Or
Until CD/EG/GL/NW/NA/SA/ST/WA field an AFL team , and play their B grade in the SANFL

Not one response to my post from the Port Reserves or Adelaide reserves supporters yet

You asked a question and answered it yourself. Was there a need for a response from anyone else?

It's a good question, one that I can't answer. But it's not up to me to answer it; I'll leave that job to the SANFL.

Pretty self evident that it's not.

My dear mate Dedja has kick started one of the best threads ever on SAFOOTY
The topic heading is called a whinge thread
Its somewhere for myself and others to sulk, complain, whinge about the AFL in SANFL

Benny, perhaps we could start a AFL in SANFL appreciation thread ;)

It is not a proper competition. I don't think it is trying to be a proper competition. It is a competition entirely for the benefit of the AFL as opposed to a competition that could benefit the AFL.
