At his best I really rate Staple.

However at his worst (which was on display in his last year with the eagles) he is an extremely frustrating player. The article correctly identifies his best trait - his endurance/flexibilty. It doesn't mention his worst - extremely soft hands on the lead and no body strength. If he has fixed these areas up, particularly the former, then he will be a useful recruit.

Did you rate him when he played in a flag for the Eagles?

To be fair though, he kicked two goals in the GF. Did his job that day at least.

The year we won the Premiership there was a large chunk of games in the middle of the year where all our key forwards were injured or suspended and Staple was the only tall guy up there capable of kicking goals. He stepped up in the absence of others and carried the foward line with zero support during that period. Had he not performed then we may not have won those games and ended where we did.

He had a great season that year and some were talking of him potentially getting rookie listed. However in the following years he fell badly to the point where he was a liabilty for us.

Agree with all that MrF. The soft hands were particularly frustrating at times when he'd done all the hard work on a lead only to spill an easy mark. Mental perhaps?
He was developing well in 2011 to be well and truly worthy of a league spot, and very disappointing he didn't keep developing, but as you say, regressed markedly. Is that the players fault, another example of what seems a trend of our inability to develop players at league level, or perhaps both?
But good luck to him at Sturt.

EVANS TO EXPLORE HIS OPTIONS
21/10/2014 1:24:02 PM

Mark Evans has advised the club that he would like to pursue opportunities at another SANFL club in 2015 despite being contracted to the club for the 2015 season.
Mark is a terrific young man and has been a valuable member of our leadership and football program since starting his career at Norwood as a junior. We are certainly disappointed with his decision but we respect his wishes and will endeavour to work out a deal with his club of choice.
Mark debuted in 2009 and played 41 league games, kicking 61 goals.

It's ok, @Dutchy , it must be a different Ben Nason.

Glenelg’s need for speed has been satisfied with the signing of Central District’s Ben Nason for season 2015.

Nason, who played 23 AFL games with Richmond in 2010 and 2011, is likely to play on a wing or at half-forward for the Tigers, who will look to make use of his neat foot skills.

‘’We are really targeting specific needs with our recruits this year and Ben adds that outside speed while also being able to find plenty of the footy,’’ Glenelg football manager Matt Lokan said.

‘’He kicks the ball really well so we are really excited to get him across to Glenelg for the 2015 season.’’
PAFC. Forever.

LOOK OUT, WE'RE COMING!

Be interested to look at that contract, if he has signed, must be an out clause for AFL, my info is that he will be at an AFL club next season, hopefully my info is 100% wrong which it normally is ;)
