South are smart they will approach Burgess, who is currently an assistant under Andy Collins at West. He is always in the final few candidates when league coaching jobs come up, and had a go at coaching a league side when Peter Simmons left the Bay a few years back

What a disaster. Poor form Cahill for spitting it , poor form Souths board for thinking you are the coach. You employed him knowing his style . They have a lot to answer for. They need big changes not replacing a board member here and there , all must go and a new board must come in. The SANFL reviewed there operations last year didnt they ?

One or two 'salt of the earth' types are the victim of some completely unwarranted comments on here. Most posters involved in those comments wouldn't have a clue what the character or capacity of those individuals actually is.

Drebin, you usually have some quite inciteful views, and you obviously have a lot of time for Peter A. I'd encourage you to run some of the names you're bandying around past him next time you get a chance. You may find you're a little misguided in some (not all) of your views on this topic.

Well there's always 2 (or more) sides to these types of issues and because of my close working and family ties with Peter, my previous involvements at North, I have been able to forge some very good contacts within the SANFL clubs including at South. In the South case my sources are telling me the same thing and all I can do is take it that they are telling the truth or near enough to it.

There are a number of people on this forum (e.g. rushby) who despite strong ties to their own club are blessed with good contacts at other clubs and most often post very reliable information or break stories such as the present Cahill one. You can only call it how you see it based on what you observe or what you have been told.

As I said on the South have imploded thread - I genuinely hope South pull themsleves out of this mess for the sake of their very loyal supporters but unless the culture of the Board changes down at Noarlunga then I fear this type of thing could be continue to happen.

Very disappointing that the South board isn't backing Cahill all the way there wouldn't be a person anymore qualified than Cahill to turn South's fortunes around.

My suggestion for the incoming coach is for South to maybe look in its own backyard at guys like Trevor Potts and Barry Pimore. Both these men have made their clubs 4 time back to back to back to back premiers in both the SFL and GSFL their knowledge of the local leagues might do South far more good than chasing a higher profile applicant.

Any thoughts on either Trevor Potts or Barry Pilmore as Chaills replacement?

Controversy follows Jack, he should of gone out gracefully years ago on top, like other greats before him.
Just an example of controversy was back in the Ebert coaching days 87, coming back from West Adelaide under the radar to coach Port in 88.
Then their was the Mick Moylan carpark inccident at the Power & also ( the ferret ) Rucci incident.
We can't forget the leaking of information about clubs to David Parkin ( Carlton )
Now the drama's at South, fighting with his own once again.
All this has only harmed & tarnished his incredible coaching record, at 75? years of age.

PhilH your comment is a disappointment to cast that stone without back-up of evidence from an ex-employee sounds like sour grapes and i believe you are better than that. South have debt due to redevelopment but all debt is being serviced.

Cahill has let himself and the SAFC down. He was not placed under undue pressure or overly questioned about his coaching, he was looking for an excuse to leave as in his heart he knows this caper is now behind him, too proud to admit it, so blame it on the club. SAFC do not want Jack to leave, this action has stunned even his great mate Michael Taylor who knew nothing about his thoughts. Petulant and egotistical behaviour from a man who has form in this area and is old enough to know better.

On 5AA the other night the inference from KG & Cornesy (assuming they knew more than they let on) was that the punishment (Jack quitting) may not have quite fit the crime (level of "interference"). In other words, the level of questioning that upset Jack may not have upset the majority of coaches.

They were surprised that he quit under those circumstances.

whilst I wouldn't know either way, this version of events sheds new light on things, & given it's not a knee-jerk reaction to events, seems the most truthful/likely...
People were quick to jump in & judge the Board, but it's looking like they were not a party to Jack's decision... surely Jack needs to quit while he's behind?

According to Ten News, the SAFC have accepted Cahill's resignation and he will no longer be associated with the club at all.

They speculated that Clay Sampson is likely to be announced as his replacement before the weekend.
