2, Fitzy didnt like the fact that Jason Torney came from being coached under Neil Craig to Cahill with coaching methods that were backward and not in the ball park of what Craig was doing.

3, Fitzy felt that Cahill coached in an old fashioned style of "kicking long and straight" and when a coach like Mark Mickan got a five goal lead on him Cahill was unable to produce a second plan to get out of it.

4. Fitzy feels that the club has to appoint someone like Torney or Sampson in order to get someone with the right passion and modern experience for the club to be successfull.

KG pressed him on how much of this was comming from the playing group and he would not answer.

Fitzy wasnt so passionate about the club when he got offered a role in BB.....left the club in the lurch right before the season began!

Answer this then Dutchy...

Would have playing for South Adelaide set him up both career wise and financially, pretty much for the rest of his life... I DONT THINK SO...

His shoulders were stuffed, his knee was buggered and mentally he would have been shot so he would have been no good to South anyway...

Don't tell me you wouldn't want the life he has had since Big Brother, as opposed to playing in pain for bugger all money in an average team ???

Dave Flanagans qualifications to be the President / Chairman of a Board?

Given he is best known as a comedian and South presently are a joke so he should be well qualified and getting tons of laughs at the same time!

Not having a go at his career, but should he be voicing his opinion so strongly if he bailed on them and hasnt been seen back there since? Surely he would have been the ideal bloke to have around the place the last few years to promote the club in the local district?

mate believe me the sun will come up in the morning - even where you are, but i was feeling the same way when noble left at the end of 2004, 05 was a lost cause for us but it has been getting better ever since, you guys need a no nonsense coach who has the full support of the hierachy before you will get anywhere, then its a matter of weeding out the trouble makers and presenting a strong and united front. Not sure that your club has hit rock bottom yet, things were looking up with 3 wins to start the year, i dont know what has happened since, but what i saw 10 days ago when glenelg smashed 'em had me scratching me head. Having said all that i did hear jack early january on the radio and he had no lofty expectations for this year and new there was a lot of work to be done to make the club competitive. As we all know the culture at the club is one of losing, trying to buy success didnt work so its going to take some really strong people to turn this all around. i wouldnt think a lack of funds would be the problem

Apparently David Kappler and Ben Kavenagh were the ones to meet with Cahill to have a word in his ear about the way he was coaching the side, so it would be reasonable to expect that David Kappler will now fill the vacant coaching role considering that he knows what needs to be done to correctly coach the side. :?

WTF is going on at Arctic Park :?

Translation:

South owes Jack $$.
South wants Jack to "work for" the $$ owed.

Happens fairly regularly in the AFL, where a player delisted before the end of his contract works the following year "in a marketing role" for the club. And then is never heard of. Again.

Yes, the sun did come up this morning, hidden by the grey coulds and misty rain that a British Summer brings!

Am sure I will continue to get up at 5am to listen to the games and will continue to support the club but everything feels so directionless at the moment.

Will be interested to see what 'other' role Jack might play, is hard to get your head around it though. Nothing like the odd highs and constant lows of supporting the Panthers..... :(

Would imagine it'd be a mentor role to Sampson or Torney in the same vain as he did with Ginever.

Big Phil wrote:Just watching 10 news now, they have a story on Jack leaving the Panthers...

They said that despite the fact HE HAS stepped down as coach, he might not be actually leaving the club. The board will be in discussion tomorrow morning to look at the possibility of him staying on in a mentoring role or some kind of off field role ???

The report said he was disgruntled with the board interferring hence the reason for him leaving so why the hell would he want to work for the board in some off field role ??? Who knows what's really going on with the thought processes of some of the borad members at Noarlunga ???

Big Phil...

Maybe Jack got some $$$ as advance payment and hasn't caught up yet and therefore needs to work a bit longer yet? (Car park attendant?).

Compare South to Westies

1. South headhunt 1 option supported by an ad in the paper with a 10 day closing date.
West advertise to get the best person for the job.
2. South start with 3 wins and a draw, followed by 3 losses (including to some decent sides). West loses its first 6 games and then wins 1. Collins still in a job, Cahill gone.
3. Pyman sacked, Weidemann sacked (but finishes out the year IIRC).
4. South and West have similar stature in membership numbers.
5. West make cultural changes over 2 years - first it was bye bye Doug and in with a new GM. Then a new coach. South make cultural change overnight, and if it doesn't work within a quarterly reporting cycle, they make change again.
6. Westies communicate with their members right throughout the recruitment process of both the GM and the coach and engage the members. South just make announcements when decisions are made.
7. South do an external review (Kevin Morris), Westies do an introspection. What is the status of the Morris review now?

You tell me - who is gonna do better sooner? Good luck to both clubs but I think the Panthers supporters need it most. Full credit to Westies - as an outside observer they seem to be doing all the right things and when you aren't winning many games, it's much easier to take when there are all the signs of continuous improvement.
