I was disappointed that the addition of an NT team stalled. It will be interesting to see how they go against Norf. I think that the SANFL needs to come up with a refreshed format given the slow death currently occuring -see threads on crown numbers over past 10 years. I would also like to see a format where everyone plays eveyone twice and the spare games is used for some sort of super series with WA.
We used to be good :-(

Team No. 10 must come from the NT.

We can't have another SA team without screwing up recruitment areas for the existing SANFL clubs. One trip to Darwin a year would be an absolute pisser. The Tasmanian Devils won't leave the VFL, so forget them, and the Sharks are priming themselves up to join the AFL.

Fair enough Blacky, good brainstorming, but I wouldn't exactly call a 10 min drive to Prospect or a 15 minute trip to Elizabeth as a long way.
I wish I only had to travel that far for home games! lol

Mind you considering Fish from The Roost made more than half of Norths games in 2005 whilst living near Streaky Bay I don't think either of us has something to complain about!

Why not add Adelaide Uni , largest senior football club in Australia with eight teams I believe.

Nice ground, maybe hard to get a fence around though.
Amateur sides wouldn't get within 10 goals of SANFL reserves sides so its not really an option.

Agreed, but my point was mainly that its a part of the parklands and it'd be probably easier to give a Port supporter an education than negotiate a fence in the Adelaide City Council area.

Go to 10

Postby Ruck Legend » Thu Jan 26, 2006 8:01 am

I am sure nobody wants to see there club go. Ask Woodville and West Torrens supporters what it was like. Yer I know the Eagles have been a successful club but I would prefer to see my club stand on its own feet and see how its goes rather than mergering.
As a Sturt member I would never want to see my beloved Double Blues merge with anyone. Nobody does.
The bye is not the best. Some times it suits but not the week before or after the state bye or possibly the week before the finals and you finish top. For example when Sturt knocked Centrals of in 2002 in the GF Centrals were playing there 2nd game in 5 weeks. Round 23 (last round) Centrals bye, First week finals Centrals bye, 2nd week, played and won, 3rd week, bye and then GF played. Don't get me wrong I know if you finish top and win the second semi you are getting some good breaks but 2 games in 5 weeks, I would not want that.
Now I live at Sheidow Park and and don't know alot about the Hills e.g Mt Barker, and other areas like Golden Grove but I always thought that maybe the Great Southern Sharks at Victor would be a good set-up. I know with talked about South and their zones but how many blokes do you reckon play for South come from this area. Actual fact South struggle enough trying to get players from the Southern League and Great Southern league to play for them.
However a new team would be exciting. I think you need a team that is quite a distance away to focus on an area that does not usually go to SANFL matches.

...and a few supporters. I actually don't mind a break here or there. Means I can go to the Bay and watch them get flogged which is always fun. Or worst case scenario, catch up with some of the jobs the missus wants done.

Spot on, a 10th team from an Area close to the city would struggle to get supporters to the game. Most people that would go to an SANFL game already would go now, and wouldn't change their allegance to a new club.
Someone from the Riverland, Mt Gambier or perhaps even Murray Bridge may at least attract new supporters to their home games, the down side to travelling a couple of hours or more would be the exixting clubs supporters may not travel the distance required to see their side play that far away.
