No Menzel no Eagles.
Who won the reserves where Dan played?

Played in front of the smallest crowd I have ever seen at Woodville.

Three goal margin not a true reflection of the game. Thought we were much better.

South lost Duncan 90 seconds before the first whistle and had to play Liam Nye who had just played a full game.

Aaron Douglass after 4 years of reserve football finally got his chance.

Shillabeer, Schuback and Tucker played their best games for the club.

Megins in his second game competed hard in the ruck which allowed Brooksby to push forward. This proved to be the difference. Neither Ballenden or Brinker Ritchie were able to go with him.

Riley Knight has either a bad ankle injury or a break. Looked in extreme pain.

There were about 10 major off the ball incidents that led to a lot of scuffles. All players received a lot of helpful advice from the toughest people at the ground.

And finally, there was one eviction that was totally warranted. Haven't seen one in years. Meant we had to barrack one down.

Very disappointing day for us. South clearly came to play and one telling thing I noticed was the amount of talk from the South players - encouragement to their teammates, telling others to get into position, etc ... which I thought showed how switched on they were. The Eagles were quite the opposite, which is concerning as that is two games in a row where we have been beaten by teams in a similar position on the ladder that have wanted it more than us.

The 18 point margin made it look a lot better for us than what it felt, yet we had our chances in the last to make it even closer.

Regarding Menzel, he was dropped after a 3 possession game against Centrals in a game where it rained for 75% of the time. He was replaced by Firns, who had a 3 possession game yesterday.

To be honest I think one of our big issues is keeping the ball in our forward line. For a lot of the game against Centrals, we had our 3 talls (Menzel, Cameron, Pearce) with no smalls around them. As soon as the ball went to ground, the opposition were able to clear it.

In 2020 and 2021 we had Rowe and Stengle respectively in there (along with others). In 2022 it was Menzel or bust - he ended up as Ken Farmer Medallist, but if he didn't mark it, the ball would generally be cleared out easily. This year our smalls seem to be going too far up the ground. We just need one to sit next to our tall forwards the whole time.

Agreed. We just couldn't keep the ball in our forward area and South's transition from defence to attack was good.
Very disappointing effort against an under- manned South who looked like they wanted it more.
With North, Port and Norwood winning as well, the finals will be a tough ask for the Eagles and a fight to avoid the wooden spoon is not out of the question either. Please prove me wrong Eagles!

Terrific win. Six changes to last week’s team. Plenty of youth in the line-up with less than a dozen senior games to their name (Douglass, Kirkland, Megins, Nye, Rogers, Schuback, Shillabeer, Tucker)

Mutch named the club’s best against his former side, Davis’ good form continued, love Shillabeer’s attack on the footy, Tucker was busy and composed in the back half while Brookers was particularly important in the first half.

Westies every chance to make it five in a row.

Seems like South are giving the hungry kids a go. Get them around the likes of Brooksby, Gibbs ad Broadbent for the rest of the season will only help their development.
