Glenelg lose the Queen's Birthday game at home, but still playing.

Pity that, I enjoyed the annual trip Bayside on the public holiday, always a good crowd in attendance and enjoyed the dining experience pre-game.

Yep, and even though we don't have the best record in the holiday games it must surely be a money spinner for the club. Always a healthy crowd in attendance and the bar and bistro 3 deep.

Lucky we don't need the coin I guess...

Must be just about 15 years since Glenelg didn't have a game on the June public holiday.

Have we bent to the powers that be or finances ? The SANFL requires tradition and an add on to celebrate the day and respect the people that go into the city.

Was it played at AO in 2016 Goddy?

Yeah it was and barely attracted 3000 fans.

I don't think the crowd size is important. The 2 grand finalists should play at AO regardless on Anzac day .
The cricket people play Sheffield Shield there with a couple of hundred patrons with no complaints .

Tend to agree Goddy. There's also a continuance of that slow erosion of the SANFL's prestige in the decision.
I dare say Sturt v Eagles would get at least a few more than West v Eagles.
I'm gonna sit back, crack the top off a Pale Ale, and watch the Double Blues prevail

Your statement bolded above is my main concern. Next we will loose finals, state games (although I don't care about them) and then GF at AO. Our admin (SANFL) should be doing everything possible to retain tradition. .

I'd be interested to hear an explanation of the Anzac Day decision. While I tend to agree that the crowd shouldn't matter, I think we should see last year's number of around 3100 as a one off. It was a pretty unique set of circumstances coming together, two of the lower drawing clubs playing and the fact that it had already become very clear that West were going to be uncompetitive, they had already had a couple of over 100 point losses by Anzac Day. I think Sturt v Eagles would have attracted a crowd on a decent day between 8 to 10 thousand. So if they are using last year's crowd as the reason I think that's unacceptable.

Otherwise, I think they've done a decent job of the fixture. Naturally as a Glenelg man I'm disappointed that we lost the Queens Birthday home game, but we get a good Friday afternoon game against Sturt, a club we always draw good crowds against, plus early season home games against Port and Norwood, so I think we do ok overall.
No Surrender!

If you want a regular decent crowd at Adelaide on Anzac Day,
if has to be Norwood and Port.
However,Port really struggle for attendees at any of their games these days.

The Power pull stuff all mate, not like the original now defunct Port Adelaide who had a great following.

North and Norwood pulled over 10K in 2014 and it was a finals like atmosphere, it just has to be a couple of decently supported clubs to work.

You've provided proof why your idea wouldn't work in the same post.
Port's crowds are crap. A side effect of having no soul.
