Major benefit for teams that have played lots of night games this year. Clubs should be spewing that this has been dropped on them so late.

Not an issue for my team.....

Or home ground advantage for a team who trains on it...

This was always going to happen once they let in Adelaide to make an even 10 team comp.
It would be even worse if it wasn't for the split rounds.

The league season is too short IMO.

Will be fantastic having a double header at Adelaide Oval late Saturday arvo/Saturday night. This decision they've got spot on.

Don't mind the arvo\night timeslot definatly worth a crack but the date is a joke, no doubt the Crows will have a win and play finals type scenario on the Sunday so the media coverage is going to be next to nothing.

You would also think that the Crows last game will be a sell out based on the situation meaning I struggle to see many people doing the night before as well as the Sunday game

Yes, I would agree they should've left the finals as they were in terms of the GF being played long weekend in October. 36,000 would say so. But have selected the right timeslot and location given they've already booked that weekend in for finals.

Will be interesting to see what they do for 2nd week of finals given the fairly good chance Port will be playing a final at home on the Saturday and Crows may be playing another final on the Sunday.

matt35 wrote:Ah! I came across to this thread because I was just thinking of this exact scenario! It's probably not the most likely scenario, but still in the mix! This did actually play out back in 2003, where both AFL sides had home finals in the first week, but if I am remembering correctly the SANFL finals did not start until the week after. This is another problem with bringing the SANFL finals forward, because the issue of two AFL finals in Adelaide is always more likely to happen in week one of the finals than any other week.

Its all because of your AFL club/s that the finals have been moved forward, they cant have some rookie listed Johnny no name and the rest of the plodders in the SANFL reserves team start their 8 weeks holidays in October when the the best 22 are all done and dusted in week 1 of the AFL finals or even better are not playing AFL finals.
Kind of makes it hard to "play to the line" as Trigg calls it

Will be interesting if Port can't hold top spot and the No AFL crowd stay true to their word by boycotting finals involving the AFL reserves teams. The Power will be playing Fremantle in Perth at the same time, so could just be a few crickets watching the qualifying final.

Edit: my bad, only 1.5 hr difference so a 2:40pm start for the AFL game. Could still affect the crowds though.

5 of the top 6 AFL sides playing the same day.
My Adelaide Oval Footy and cricket members tickets will be going unused that day.

The SANFL have made the best of the bad situation they have created by shortening the season and moving the finals forward. Twighlight/night double header is the correct decision. Second week things potentially get even more difficult!

As I said earlier, Sturt v Norwood qualifying final looks very likely, so hopefully that will ensure a decent crowd even allowing for the Crows game the next day. Given that we're unlikely to pull of a shock win over Port in the last round, they are still likely to have the week off.

If Centrals could get 5th Spot, could result in a 'bumper' Crowd in the 1st week.

Sturt v Norwood will get plenty @ AO & the Dogs playing later will ensure a large contingent of their support.

20K a possibility?

What if North scrape in for the finals?

this is very true. i cant see me showing up given i will likely be at the crows game the week after.

having said that though, im not sure what else the SANFL could have done given when they started the season.

might be worth making later again? guess they have scope to tweak it.

And for the tinfoil hat nimrods who've claimed 'greater media coverage' of the SANFL this year I'd like them to scour the Tiser today for any mention of what is a relatively important announcement of the finals schedule.

Plenty of NASCAR coverage though, maybe Danger likes it.
