UNTIL NORWOOD COME OUT AND SAY OTHERWISE WE CAN ONLY SPECULATE. I HEARD OF POSSIBLE MERGER TALKS BETWEEN NORWOOD AND STURT ABOUT 3-4 MONTHS BACK BUT THIS WOULD ONLY HAPPEN IF "THE BIG ANNOUNCEMENT" FROM NORWOOD FELL THROUGH. WAS THIS THE MOOTED ARISTOCRAT DEAL? ONLY TIME WILL TELL WITH THESE 2 CLUBS AND IF THEIR FINANCES CAN IMPROVE SOONER THAN LATER.
Chief - why should the club have to respond to every rumour? I have already stated that the previous speculation was mis-informed. A simple example is the mention of Aristocrat - they are a publicly listed manufacturer of pokie machines, so why would they be interested in a specific partnership with Norwood? This is not their core business - their business is selling machines (and presumably software). So that is a key example of why this rumour is misguided innuendo and any half-smart person ought to know that there would never be any partnership with Aristocrat.
Re bankruptcy, the club has plenty of Assets still and the main challenge is cash flow but the committed efforts of many have helped out here.
Coopers is not bankrolling the club - they simply took naming rights to the stadium in the alternative to being the major sponsor, and Fairmont Homes are our major sponsor.
And before everyone complains, you should be reminded that Norwood has not asked for financial assistance from the SANFL or had to rattle tins. I myself have given meney to other SANFL clubs who historically found themselves having to resort to this activity. For those from North who reckon Nwd didn't give a flying fire truck I don't know about this but we certainly haven't asked other clubs or the league for financial help.
As for the Pokie hearing, it has been deferred for another month or so because the Licensing Court is hearing another case at present with numerous similarities to the Norwood application and the Court has made the decision to defer the matter, not the parties.
