Ongoing Predictions for Final Standings

All discussions to do with the SANFL

Postby sydney-dog » Mon Aug 07, 2006 9:58 pm

This years finals may be decided by which AFL players are available for their respective clubs...

My informer tells me that Craigy is itching to have both Hudson and Perrie in his sides, even though North are strong in the ruck and key forwards this will no doubt impact their flexibility as a side...

One are of concern for Centrals is a lack of pace, Symes may be a key inclusion if the Power release him to play.

The crows need to develop midfield options so Skippy and Knights may come in to calculations in Sept, this will impact on the Eagles.....

Some of these decisions just might tip finals in one teams favour

What happens next week - do you predict a flag coming to Brighton Road?

At best your the 4th ranked/best team so far this year and I don't think that will change from what we have seen so far over the whole year!

Hey Dreb do you know what emoticons are for.......
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

Surely one shock loss to Sturt this year would be enough to frighten the bays into absolutely flogging Sturt this week? I think it will be a 100 plus point win to Glenelg given they have so much on the line and Sturt....well they are just a rabble and even more injury riddled this week.

Drebin, I just estimated the approximate odds of Glenelg finishing minor premiers, and it is around 1200/1 ! I think it was obvious from what I was saying that I was just joking. You have to realise though that it is quite a novelty for Glenelg supporters to be thinking about finals at this stage of the season, let alone double chances and higher honours, so you should just let us enjoy the fantasy-land we are in.

M/MIKE someone mentioned you at the pub the other night,
something about throwing darts !!!!
How is that arm ball going ?

Northeast Adelaide are the real deal in 2006 we still are not
sure about their potency as a few of the star recruits have been
injured most of the year.

The other worry are the Eagles Wedgie. They did knock us off by 14? goals last time we played them. This week could give us some idea of where we are at. Agree though, Central are the main mental hurdle North have to overcome.

Agree drebin but it never works that. Every year in every comp there are upsets with teams that seemingly have nothing to play for. Look at North against Norwood the last two years.

Yes Rod, Centrals are the mental hurdle. I am prepared to cut as slack on that cos we played them early and we dont play em again till late so we might have what it takes this year.

We will not find it "piss" funny if it happened as we have been charitable enough to Glenelg giving them 3 flags!

Been thinking about where we will finish for the last couple of days and whilst there are three other teams who would like to have our % age and points by no stretch of the imagination are we safe in the five, which means the upcoming games agaisnt Sturt and South are must wins for us still.

Whilst Port has a tough run home and along with Norwood are 4 % points behind us, the last two weeks have shown that upsets each round are guaranteed so to think South, Norwood and Port can't knock off the likes of Centrals, North and Eagles would be pure folly (as some of those teams have demonstrated).

Equally West and Sturt acould easily knock of the likes off Glenelg, South, Norwwod and Port, if any of those four teams take west and Sturt lightly as we did earlier this year when we played Sturt.

There are more upsets to come over the remaining rounds of the season.....

So taking my beloved Bays into consideration, despite what I have posted earlier in this thread, all things being equal we should make the five and at best we can pinch a double chance, but it is feasible that we could finish as low as 7th if we lose our remaining four games and and Norwood, South and Port come home like a 5:47 express to Noarlunga.

Gotta be positive though and think we can make it so I hope my boys are thinking only of doing the team things they have so adequately demonstrated over the past four weeks to maintain our winning form so we can be guaranteed seeing 3rd weekend in September action......

A win tomorrow is a must.
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

I keep saying it time and time again wedgie. Don't write the Eagles off. My prediction is we'll knock you off this weekend and regain top spot and after that you still have a toughie against the dogs. My prediction Eagles minor premiers.

I certainly havent. All you said was the Dogs are our main threat because of our disgraceful record against them.

We all know the Eagles are a threat this year and tomorrow will be a very tough game.

Eagles supporters are a bit on edge at the moment!

Well North are gone as I said 2 weeks ago we may not win another game this year and could/will miss the double chance. Repeating the pattern of 2004/2005 - good early, steady middle of the season then poor and limping by finals. No plan B, poor skils under pressure, pouting players and no midfield. I rather finish now than just make up the numbers.

As I have said all year - at best North would be behind seasoned performers in Eagles and Centrals as the 3rd ranked team and now the Bays and Port breathing down our necks I would almost say 4th best performed which will not take us anywhere. No back bone unde pressure I'm afraid to say - front runners at best so prepare for heartbreak North as it all goes "pear shaped" again at the business end of the season.

Might also be some internal grumblings at North amongst the coaching panel - if the stories I am hearing are correct? The fact one coach spent all the game in the outer with his family and friends has to make you wonder too?

My top Top 5 prediction after Round 23:

Eagles
Bays
Centrals
North
Port or South

A game in hand helps us a bit but who can we realistically beat out of Glenelg, South, Centrals and Port on current from?

My updated prediction after Rd 19:
(I thought we could turn this thread into an ongoing prediction topic)

Eagles 16 wins
North 15 wins
Glenelg 12 wins
Central 12 wins
Port 11 wins
South 10 wins
Norwood 10 wins
Sturt 3 wins
West 1 win

There's some damn important games coming up, imagine if my latest prediction came true how good a few weeks in a row at Adelaide Oval would be?
Last rd: Glenelg v South and North v Port
1st week of finals: Central v Port and North v Glenelg

Could be some awesome crowds coming up!

I'll have a go:

Eagles 16
North 14
Central 13
Glenelg 11
South 11
Port 11
Norwood 10
Sturt 3
West 1

Could easily swap Port and South. North will be OK, Centrals will get a double chance becuase they have their last two hardest games at home. Eagles will not lose another game for the same reason.

Wouldnt it be terrible if Port missed out then all of a sudden they had ALL their AWFL players available at once -like early in the year - for what would have been finals?
