out of curiousity who is in their commentary team?????

good for the SANFL to get some more exposure

Can confirm that the callers for this weeks ABC Radio game - North v Sturt @ Prospect - will be Roger Wills and Chris Kendall with Stephen Williams on special comments.

Roger Wills and Williams will actually make a quality combination and will be good to listen to , more quality like this needed for SANFL broadcasts with the exclusion of Doug Oakley .

Better late than never.

Answering some earlier questions, since 2002 LifeFM has been pretty regular in covering one game each round and all the finals. It is not automatic that it will be a Saturday Afternoon game, sometimes it will be on Sunday or last week a Monday match.

Keeping it brief the allocation of games is done by the SANFL on a four weekly basis. ABC TV gets first pick then the OTHER games are allocated to RPH and LifeFM first. The league aims to ensure as many games as possible are broadcast in someway and the TV game only gets on radio if the other ones are also covered.

Radiowise its hard to say if SANFL media coverage has dropped over the last five years.
On the downside when SEN/5DN fell over in 2005 that left two weekly broadcasters and in recent years fiveaa has dropped any minor round broadcasts of the SANFL even when there is no AFL such as the next two Saturday afternoons.
When all four games are on at once, two will not be on radio and one not broadcast by anyone.

On the plus side 5RPH picked up a lot of the slack from SEN and fiveaa by covering as many games as the timeslots will allow. Between 2002 and 2006 they went from broadcasting about 34 games a year to now about 50 or so. It has also maintained three shows per week (Monday & Wednesday Mornings and Thursday Night) that are mainly foussed on the SANFL. It is a phenominal level of coverage for a league of this size.
Whilst LifeFM has maintained its coverage at the one game per round it has "gone the extra mile" in other areas. In recent years it has travelled to Encounter Bay, Berri & Perth (with Waikerie a possibility in Rd14), did a six hour broadcast on Grand Final day and ensured the Magarey Medal was broadcast live around the world last year when TV coverage was dropped.
Also whilst fiveaa has dropped broadcasting minor round games it also introduced a dedicated one hour show on Sunday nights.

For those that read the Sportsbeat Magazine, Chris Kendall wrote an excellent article this week on the SANFL's radio coverage. (Although how I got allocated the spot of being elbowed at the same time by John Nankivell and Darryl Smith whilst Kym Morgan rode my back for a mark in the photo I don't know.) :)

A couple of good games of footy being called by 5RPH, in particular looking forward to the call of the Norwood v Centrals game in Round 14 if the last game between these sides is anything to go by.

Also, great to see that LifeFM will be calling the game from Waikerie between West and Sturt, another road trip for the crew to look forward to, but not as far as Perth to travel for us this time !!

I believe the broadcast of the match will be picked up by LifeFM's Riverland station (100.7FM) and for those interested that are heading up the Friday night before, LifeFM's very own expert caller Doug Oakley will be guest speaker at a dinner in Loxton.

Great to see many Norwood games covered on TV as i have difficulty going to games on Saturday afternoon, in particuly the Central/Norwood game at the ponderosa because i live in sthn area.
I can now sit back for the next 3 weeks in my lounge room and sink a few cold ones during the process. Good on ya ABC!!!

Can't wait for Rd 15 to see if the online streaming is any better...been unbearable so far and desperately want to be able to hear one of our games uninterrupted this year without the stream rebuffing half-way through every sentence.

I'd say that would be the case Thiele, Doug Oakley will already be up in the Riverland from the night before with his guest seakers role at a Riverland LifeFM Dinner, so I'd suggest PhilH, myself and Johnny Nanks will convoy up in my motor vehicle, seeing as though I have a company car and the other boys will save on petrol ;)

RPH are covering some ABC TV games. I don't recall this happening before.

I'm pretty sure when north has been on the telly, there has been no radio coverage, expecting the 891 ABC radio last week ?

Has something changed or are the drugs kicking in

I tuned into Life-FM today for the final few minutes of the Nth V Centrals match, I didnt know the score at that stage as I was listening to Pt V Nwd on both ABC and RPH for a fair bit of the afternoon. The comentators were the most uninspiring blokes I had ever listened to, dull, boring, non-exciting, tedious, dull etc, that I have ever listened to, I was glad the siren sounded and they told the score so I could go back to the dear old ABC
I wish my remembering was as good as my forgetting

They are shocking , obviously Doug Oakley wasnt commentating as he is very good. Dull & Boring is spot on , unfortunately 1197 are the same . I know it wouldnt be easy but surely they get some training/ coaching. Hows the " big " intros they try and do. Makes you cringe.

You are probably right subpol ... when you see a guy have a heart attack in front of you and then have people holding up blankets around him whilst ambulance comes onto the field and staff try to ressusatate him it does put a dampener on the rest of the day and the football doesn't seem to be so important. Not very professional of us I concur but that's how it was. Phil Herden..LifeFM

Personally I love Life FMs coverage, only heard the wrap up after the game but great coverage to get a new ladder so quick and a comprehensive run down on all happenings of the day.

I think people should stop taking the media coverage the SANFL gets for granted. We are lucky that a dedicated few people put in their time and effort into providing radio coverage. Would those who come on here bagging the coverage prefer there is none?
