That's probably got something to do with alot of the riots overseas. I just don't see the point in people taking sport seriously. If you lose, congratulate the winner and get on with it. After all, it's just a game!! Unless you're getting paid 100s of 1000s of dollars to play it....lucky bastards!
Alot of that has to do with the history of the clubs in Europe, especially clubs such as Rangers and Celtic which were based on religon which is more than life for alot of people. It is only in modern times that Rangers have started buying catholic players.
Also alot of clubs especially in Eastern Europe were based on political ideals. Obviously in Australia most clubs were formed as a social outlet or place to play the sport.
