Not a bad side at all WHUFC, except, having missed most of 2008 with a foot injury, I would probably give Louis Hadden the spot on the wing and Leigh Westhoff would have to come through the 2's.

Out of the AFL listed players I think realistically the only player we may not available for selection in round 1 would be Justin Westhoff. I think Symes might be a chance to play a few games early for us coming back from his hand injuries, Griffin is coping criticism in the media and may not be picked by Neil Craig and M.Westhoff, J.Giles, J.Moss and R.Henderson are more likely to be starting the year in the SANFL as opposed to the AFL.

Regardless of who is and isn't available, it is going to be an interesting dilemma for the coaching staff and selection committee.

Yeah i sort of forgot it is a round1 side so Hadden will probably get his chance or even Lee Spurr.

By not including any AFL listed players it does show how much depth the club has.

Just read in the messenger that Hadden has an injury and won't play in either of the internal trials so he may have a slower start to the season as well, so i would probably have either Lee Spurr or Kieran McShane (who has burnt up the track)

They're training well, but I don't think there are any large carrots involved :)

Now that you have seen a trial game or two does your round 1 line-up change.
Based solely on the Dogs trial against the Bays i think Ricky Henderson will be pushing for a league spot and maybe even Kieran McShane.

On trial form, I think it's going to be hard to keep Weetra out of the starting lineup. And put (Kamakazi) Mercer in that forward line and it provides more scoring options than most other sides in the comp.

C B Kane Allen Backwell
HB Murphy Button Meyer
B Mules Mills Pannozo
R Cranston Fisher Logan
Int from Kirk, Holmes, Block, Ruwoldt, Willoughby, Sugars, Carey, Liebelt, C Kane, Fosdike, Sellar

Probably a few others i have missed that will get a chance at league level but that would be my choice after watching to first two trials hard to pick the final 21 though

You are prob right after the trials, Weetra and Mercer have to be a big chance as does Lobbe, and Jay Shannon...
I am not convinced on Beckmanns or Barham yet, they haven got great trial form.

I'll have a crack at souths possible line up!

F Kennedy-hunt Warren Turner

HF Rolfe Cockshell Mckernan

C Thewlis Handby Carrol

HB Torney Hately Neagle

B Sandery Crabb Mckenna

1r Parry Boyd Redigolo

Int from Smith,Bradley,Fergusson,Elliot,Illjesen

There are a few other new players to the club who are injured and yet to have much of a run so I hope if fit they will be pushing to be in the round one line up.This Weekends trial against the roosters will be for positions in the round one side.
New players to the panthers line up that i have named are Cockshell,Mckenna and Kennedy-Hunt.

Barham is too big a target at CHF to be left out. I've seen him take some strong marks and the guy has definite talent, but I think he just needs to settle in.

Need to look at Beckmans some more.

I think Barham is better suited as the 3rd tall forward similar to Clive. I cant see Barham taking too many contested marks.

Now that the trial games are over, I thought it would be best to see the predictions again for the everyones round 1 team.
Here goes:
F: Caruso, Willits, Dejongh
HF: Morris, Br Fisher, Munn
C: Cupido, Ezard, Bailey
HB: Davies, Ferguson, Be Fisher
B: Barber, Martin, Schmidt
R: Moran, Dangerfield, Davenport
INT: R. Blesing, Champion, Piasente
EMG: Langford, Anderson, Caire (to come in if Dangerfield plays for crows)
It's almost impossible.

Re: Name Your Round 1 Team

Postby Big Phil » Mon Mar 23, 2009 4:15 pm

Based on Centrals pre season form and players unavailable due to injury, here is my shot at it:

CENTRALS RND 1 LINE UP :

FF: I.Callinan M.Westhoff J.Giles
HF: C.Gowans H.Lawry K.Jenner
C: B.O'Hara S.Dutschke E.Sansbury
HB: R.Williams D.Havelberg A.Switala
FB: Y.Sibenaler J.Hardy A.Duncan

1R: J.Griffin, P.Thomas, M.Slade

INT: J.Mackenzie, J.Gowans, C.O'Sullivan

EMG: D.Allocca, L.Barmby, L.Spurr, L.Habel, L.Westhoff, D.Hynes, K.McShane

At this stage, I don't know that The Crows will want to give Brad Symes a run at league level, he may have 1 more week off or even play in the 2's for the Dogs. I reckon Adelaide will leave Griffin with us for a couple of weeks going with Maric, Moran and Tippett and Mossy is still injured with a hip I believe.

Trent Goodrem looked to have hurt his ankle/foot pretty bad on Saturday and don't think he will come up for round 1 and I think we will go in with 3 talls in Griffin, Giles and Mackenzie, playing Giles in a pinch hitting forward role. Still have a few other handy names to come back into the side or at least puch for selection and there are some unlucky names on the emergency list.

Expect to see Hadden, Schell, Cochrane, Hayes, Goodrem and maybe 1 or 2 others come in and out of the league side as the season progresses. Keep an eye on Dave Allocca as well, I reckon he might just bob up and play a few handy league games for the Doggies.

Cheers,

BP
