It's even more amazing when the person chasing the ball carrier is quicker than them and catches them and wins the footy for holding the ball !!! ;)

Yes, amazing because of the few times it happens.

Rubbish, while it may not be as frequent as a player breaking away from an opponent, it happens enough during the course of a game !!

I think these numbers are not that important in footy as getting to the right spots at the right times is more important than running around flat knacker for 10 mins. As a younger fella i ran under 9 mins for 3km but wasnt overly fast off of the mark so although very fit, was still not super fast off the mark so spent time chasing more often than not, like AH said.

I dont mean to sound disrespectful, but I find that hard to believe. Unless of course you were an elite athlete who spent many hours over many years training for such an event.

Nah RB is right, a time trial or any aerobic power test i.e. > 5 mins, measures someones "fitness more so than speed. It measures a persons ability to maintain a %age of their maximal speed for a long period of time. So the fastest person isn't necessarily the best time trialler as they cannot maintain a higher rate of their maximal velocity.

Confused you? yep OK my work here is done.

You only need to do a correlation beteen the best kids at the draft camp and the 3 km time trial/beep test to see that that fastest kids are necessarily teh "fittest kids" aerobically. Two predominatly different energy system.
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

I agree with Philby. Happens enough in a game, and no way I classify it as "amazing because of the few times it happens".

Be bloody rare for a game to go from go to whoa and not see someone get chased down....

Nope, I understand your point. My point is if people like Judd and Van Berlo and K.Cornes who in thier own right have good explosive pace cant run under 9 minutes for 3k's I find it hard to believe RB had the ability to do that. He may well have done so, but I mless than convinced.

Fair enough Booney.

I ran for SA for 4 years through high school, and ran 8.52 at the national cross country championships in Perth in 2001, was beaten by a guy called Collis Birmingham who ran in the last Olympics. Tom Rischbieth was on the same trip.

A good runner doesnt equate to a good footballer. I was a good example of this and to a lesser scale, Tom.

With your dodgy shoulders, you'd want to be able to run so you didn't get tackled ;)

Well done. Your post before did not have this information and I was suspect,no doubt. Your confirmation of your ability is enough for me. I guess I am wary of people on here saying "I can do this" or "I have done that".
