I think these numbers are not that important in footy as getting to the right spots at the right times is more important than running around flat knacker for 10 mins. As a younger fella i ran under 9 mins for 3km but wasnt overly fast off of the mark so although very fit, was still not super fast off the mark so spent time chasing more often than not, like AH said.
I dont mean to sound disrespectful, but I find that hard to believe. Unless of course you were an elite athlete who spent many hours over many years training for such an event.
Nah RB is right, a time trial or any aerobic power test i.e. > 5 mins, measures someones "fitness more so than speed. It measures a persons ability to maintain a %age of their maximal speed for a long period of time. So the fastest person isn't necessarily the best time trialler as they cannot maintain a higher rate of their maximal velocity.
Confused you? yep OK my work here is done.
You only need to do a correlation beteen the best kids at the draft camp and the 3 km time trial/beep test to see that that fastest kids are necessarily teh "fittest kids" aerobically. Two predominatly different energy system.
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!
