the club had one & 10 large walked out, then we didn't have one & that was when only the holdy had the tab, had the 10 large never walked we would still have it

I packed up and went across the road to the Holdy.
Just makes me wonder how much money 8 SANFL clubs could be losing in total because of this.
I certainly wont read much into Glenelg's loss because of the great renovations they've done which wouldn't be cheap but I only wonder how much worse it might have been in a poor year on field.

The 8 clubs that don't have Coopers only because of the League sponsers of West End, while Norwood has Coopers as majpr sponsers, but you knew that many years ago didn't you.

This is true, but Norwood still sell West End products as well as Coopers. I would have thought other clubs would do the same. It's always good to have a choice.

Considering they sell over 8 beers on tap, and different beers again in bottles I hardly think choice is a problem.

Disagreed, its the reason why I dont spend hundreds of dollars there but are quite willing to. I might be in a minority enjoying a South Australian beer but it would only take a few hundred people like me to cost the club tens of thousands of dollars if not more.
But if the Japanese beer gives them a couple of milion dollars a year that'd more than make up for it so everyone's happy including the Holdy.
Shame though as many like myself would prefer to send their money the way of an SANFL club rather than a Hotelier.

Also Im not sure why so many Glenelg people are chiming in as it has nothing to do with what club it is, its a credit to Glenelg that I'd consider drinkig there because of their great set up.
If North were closer or South were more appealng it'd be exactly the same discussion.
Anyway, because of this Ive discovered the Holdys great rang of beers on tap as well as their great schnittys and they're making good money unlike the place across the road probably because they're more in touch with younger drinkers today. I even know of many Bays fans who spend more money over there before and after games becaus of choices available.

Don't worry wedgie the Holdy is a valuable sponsor of the club and New Years Eve saw several Glenelg Footy club officials dining there at the start of their nights festivities. So patronize it all you want as it will help the Glenelg Footy club too.

Luckily for me the Holdy serves me WE Draught the way I like it too...
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

Cool mate, its good to know I spend some hard earned at a pub that puts cash into the SANFL.
Itd be a shame where other clubs and pubs share similar locations and there is no sponsorship though.
I actually spent my most recent big night out at the Jetty Hotel, do you know if they sponsor the Bays too?

You're position was sound until you started talking about young drinkers. What would you know about them?

Yes they do. As well as the Holdy, The Bay Motel / Hotel, Broady, Morphie Arms & The Fountain Inn. If you ever stay at Mt Gambier make sure you use the Quality Inn International too.....

Cool, good to hear. Its great when a local community gets behind their SANFL club.

I wonder what the exclusitivity clause is worth to clubs with West End because I know pubs no longer find the odds tipped in their favour and opt out of them, it'd want to be damn good for the money the clubs were missing out on, even if they were I'd suggest a lot of boards and administrations are so out of touch they'd probably be unaware anyway.

PS Bring back the Bay Disco too! ;)

When South Adelaide did their renovations they got rid of the Tab etc claiming that it was costing them money to have it.

They have recently got it back again. Interesting!

You can't just look at the cost and direct income from having a Tab. By having it there you end up with more drinkers for longer and you make money selling drinks, meals and from increased pokie revenue.

Maybe over time mate, but a ban of all smokers will immediately reduce revenue, to the best of my (rough) knowledge it's already been proven here and overseas.

I would hate to see the aggregate loss figure from the SANFL club's for last season. It would be ugly.
Glenelg i imagine are in a reasonable position to bounce back from one bad year. However,
all of a sudden the financial viability of clubs is gaining some attention. One article in the
local messenger said ANZ bank are seeking 'right of entry' over the Council owned Glenelg function centre in case the club defaults on a loan it took out to upgrade the venue.
The council apparently rejected the move, but are now looking at a caveat of their own, because, according to councillor Mikki Bouchee, "we have an industrial kitchen and other items in there that are worth a fortune".
I take it Cr Bouchee is not a friend of Glenelg.

that is just standard banking procedure, if the bank finances an asset that is located inside premises owned by someone else the landlord must give permission for the bank to access the premises should it wish to reclaim the assets financed, if not the bank can be left holding the debt, happens to all businesses big and small - its sad the messenger have to make an article out of it....

Lets put it this way, as a member of the Glenelg Footy Club if I lived in her ward (Somerton Park or Glenelg I'm not 100% sure which) I wouldn't be voting for her....

Even when it is project that it is not just for the footy club (the Southern toilet block to be accessed by the students of Gllenelg Primary School) she voted agaisnt council part funding the project...
