The future of the club is more important than the past. What good is it if they have a tradition but can't sustain themselves going forward? South need more fans, of that there is no doubt. Appealing to people in the southern area is the only way they can attract more fans, and if the marketing shows that people down around noarlunga and their metro zone are more likely to support a club named south coast than south adelaide then they have to go for it.

One of CDFC's greatest assets is they are strongly linked to a large area of the greater metropolitan area. They appeal beyond Elizabeth perhaps in part due to the fact that the Central Districts cover a vast area. We have an ability to appeal to people in Salisbury, Smithfield Gawler and many other suburbs surrounding Elizabeth without people feeling like they are not represented. I wonder whether people who don't live in Sturt, Norwood, North Adelaide, Port Adelaide, Glenelg, West Adelaide, Woodville or West Torens feel unrepresented despite being in an adjoining suburb in those clubs zones. I know personally many people who live in the areas within Port's zone who feel part of the Central District before they feel part of Port Adelaide.

Are folk in these areas going to be alienated?

No different to other SANFL club's country zones.
Good move, South need to do something to tap into the Southern supporters.
Playing their home games on Sunday may assist in drawing greater crowds to avoid clashes with local teams.

exactly the point i made in the other thread about playing more night games and sunday games. i for one would love to attend a south game every week, but my love for the sharks means i'm lucky to watch 2 south games all year. this matter should be addressed ASAP. and not just for south, for all SANFL clubs. i requested spelly to find me the stat for the average crowd numbers, compared to the attendance on the june long weekend, which is when the SFL v SAAFL association match is on, giving alot of teams the bye. the attendance for this particular weekend is up by nearly 200 spectators since 2001. and as i stated in the other thread, thats with the association match being played which i would guess would attract around 2000 supporters.if there was no other game that day, what would die hard footy lovers do for their footy fix? my guess is go to a SANFL game!

so more games on a sunday, or even friday and saturday nights (pending lighting) would be a great initiative IMO.

South Coast Panthers, yeah i don't mind that. However, with that comes a jumper change and with what has been presented and discussed thus far, forget it! Change of name to reflect our district/location i can see advantages, but change our jumper, NO WAY!

I agree wholeheartedly darley16. Jumper MUST remain the same.

I agree, you have basically said what I first thought when I heard the idea.

Guernsey change? Couldn't they incorporate the new initials into the current guernsey design? Perhaps a SCFC: A Carlton type big "C" and "F" with a little "S" in the top left hand corner and a little "C" in the bottom right hand corner?

Or maybe the SAAFL and SFL and other leagues should look at when they play there games maybe they can change to Sundays so that league games can stay on Saturdays where they belong.

Terrible suggestion wyc- so all local leagues should bend around South??

That would be great, get the games moved to Sundays where you will have 1/4 the participants all for an extra 100 through the gates of Hickinbotham.

South need to move to maximise the number of games that dont clash with local leagues, not vice versa...

I raised that becuase it as stupid as saying the sanfl footy, any club, should be changed for the local leagues. IMO All senior footy should be on Saturdays no matter what league they are.

South played quite a few Sunday games in 2007 which seemed to be well attended.

Not many Sunday games this year and crows seemed poor.

Scoop do you have any figures on crowds for last two years?

Just a question as i can't remember the words to the South Adelaide club song. If they changed there name would they then need a new clubs song as well.

Club song would only have to change if club colours change. Song only refers to the "mighty blue and whites".

I think South Coast Panthers sounds good, but I don't know what they could do with Centrals. South is still South, but changing from Central is too big an identity shift. Besides there is already a North and it would be unfair to pick up a suburb or town name from their support base at this late stage.
