Congrats Forrey. A true great of our club. Gave his all week in... week out. Carried himself on and off the ground with pure class. An awesome example to the blokes coming through on what loyalty and commitment is all about. Deserved his state selections... and thankfully the side had some success in the last couple of years. Rarely missed a game. Presented himself always in immaculate condition.

Quality blokes wear the 16... Marshall... Sherwood... someone has a lot to live up to in coming years.

With Sammy R now also departing... the shoes Forrey leaves are MASSIVE to fill.

Is he leaving as well, that will be a huge loss for Glenelg if true and very hard to replace a quality CHB and FB.

Yes, aparently he and his wife are keen to take a year off and travel around the world doing charity work...

With their 2 key defensive posts gone, the Bays will be desperate for some key position players in terms of recruiting...

Im glad Nathan Grima has kept his spot on the Kangaroos list otherwise the Bays would make a massive play for him, and throw everything they have at it.

im sure centrals have never ever ever done anything like that in the past
Matty Wade is a star and deserves more respect from the forum family!

he didnt exactly retain his spot, he was upgraded from a Rookie to the Senior list

Nevertheless, he will look better in a Kangaroos jumper than what he would have in a Bays gurnsey

Plus, who's to say if he was cut that he wouldn't come back to Centrals and bring Todd over with him :D

What, make every attempt to recruit quality footballers to the club that have delisted by an AFL club. Yeah, they dabble in recruiting ex AFL players but we generally like to rely on local talent and blood our youngsters through the lower grades.

I didn't say it was wrong for them to make a play for him, infact if i was a bays supporter i would dissapointed if they didn't try and get Nathan Grima if he was available. IMHO he would be a perfect fit there.

My thinking was if the Bays were looking for tall defenders and Nathan was available i think at this current time they would have just as much if not more to offer to him than Centrals.

Like Big Phil said with the current circumstances im glad he will be wearing a Kangaroos guernsey and not a bays.

MEDIA RELEASE
Tuesday, 25th November 2008
TIGER VETERAN FAREWELLS THE BAY

The Bay’s most loved veteran, Paul Sherwood announced his retirement to his teammates
at the commencement of the Senior’s pre-season training on Monday night,
24th November.
Paul played 190 games in his 9 years playing for the Club, including 5 finals and 1
Grand final appearance.
Recruited from Queensland in 1999 where he played for Morningside, Paul has
played top level football throughout his career at the Bay, which spans almost a
decade.
Sherwood’s stellar career is not without its accolades. In 2001, just three years at
the Club he was awarded the Club’s coveted John H Ellers Best and Fairest award.
Paul followed on to win the Best Team Man award in 2004 and again in 2006. Paul
also represented South Australia in their victorious match against Western Australia
in Perth in 2003, and was named in the Advertiser Team of the Year in consecutive
years 2004 and 2005.
“He (Paul) has arguably been one of the best full back in the SANFL in the past 8
seasons.” Senior Coach Mark Mickan commented.
Paul’s natural leadership qualities brought about by his fierce determination and his
care for the behavioural standards of the Club both on and off the field made him an
important and consistent member of the Club’s leadership group from 2004 to 2007
including Vice Captain in the 2004 and 2005 seasons.
His affable nature, humility, dry sense of humour and genuine care for people
combined with his impeccable playing record, has made him a highly respected and
loved son of the Bay.
Paul joins fellow Tiger veteran Matthew Bode who also retired from Football in 2008.
The Glenelg Football Club congratulates Paul on his career at the Bay over the past
decade and wishes him all the best in his future endeavours.

Official now :(

Well done Forrest once again. Glad I went to the B & F night where I had a quick chat, and told him to continue on next year. The wry smile gave it away for me.

Hope he stands on Snouts Hill next season...he may find himself very drunk after continuous free beers from all the Louts....

Bit of a shame he didn't get to 200 games, would have been a good accolade for him...

Needless to say, he still had a great career in the SANFL over the last 10 years and is a true gentleman of football.

Once again, congratulations Forrest, good luck in retirement.

Massive, massive loss IMO. A real tough hard bastard. Sturt will miss him.

Couldn't agree more SAJBC,

Andrew Whiteman is one of those hard nuts that you love to hate (as an opposition supporter) but he would also be one of the first blokes you would want in your side from another SANFL club. I know the Gowans boys will be sad to see him go, much like them, he loves the niggle and rough stuff and will be sadly missed by Double Blues fans and many neutral supporters alike.

Congratulations on a great career Andrew.

I've heard rumours he may be joining his good mate ex Tiger Ben Moore at Reynella next season, however both names have also been linked to Tea Tree Gully as well... Don't know the bloke from a bar of soap so am only going on what i hear from my sources... My guess is that he will play next year with Ben Moore, wherever that may be..!!
