Gotta sit on the fence a bit with this one Centurion. Yes plenty of examples of those that have lost focus, especially if you looked at it as a percentage of the total player pool. Also though plenty of great club players, Wilson snr, Moorey, Graham, Hocking, Ware, McAdam probably a few others also that were drafted O'loughlin, Sansbury, Varcoe so far.
No doubt players could be listed along the line of Angwin, Nathan Ablett (I know they're AFL examples) that go the same way.
As a percentage, I agree. Interest is often lost. I guess a number of good SANFL ex AFL listed players would rather take the same or more money, with less commitment, "spotlight" and discipline in a lesser league.

Mick O'Loughlin, Gavin Wanganeen, Michael Long, Derek Kickett, Michael McLean.....

No, these guys actually DID commit & go on to be champions.

I don't know CP, you'll have to ask Sqwark that one ? I agree it probably wont happen...

maybe I got that wrong - I thought I had read it on this site somewhere in another thread. Apologies if I'm mistaken!

Sorry but you are wrong - indigenous players are highly overrepresented at AFL level. They make up 1% of the population and are many times that number at the elete level. The fact is it is very hard to make it at the top level and many don't make it for a variety of reasons.

Have to agree that the perception indigenous Australians struggle with the work load of football is unfair and unwarranted. I think generally it's unfair actually, and that it's really just a symptom of our own ignorance of their culture and arrogance that our culture is so superior that trying to understand any other is pointless.

For all the difficulties aboriginal people have and have had, be it poverty, living in remote areas or the widespread racism, particularly before Michael Long's brave crusade (sadly all basically because of white european blind arrogance) the simple fact that we have an amazing representation of those indigenous players at all levels of football, especially the highest level shows perhaps a natural affinity for the game but it more significantly a work ethic as a group that is significantly greater than many highly represented ethnic groups across this particular country. To point out a couple of young guys who walked away and make a generalisation on such a small sample is embarrassing. Not just because of the racist overtones (yes, that was a seriously racist comment and if you think otherwise then HAGHLAY) but because it's sad to be associated as a centrals supporter, Australian and human being with such a dumb, thoughtless comment.

We can all come up with a stack more aboriginal lads who have made it than didn't, and futhermore I can come up with many many more white Australians to have walked away from the game due to a lack of a work ethic to match their talent than aboriginal. And that's despite the fact that any abogirinal kid does it and everyone remembers. A white kid does it and he just gets forgotten.

No, it's not nathan Grima...

If he gets delisted by the Kangaroos (which I don't think he will) I would hope that if he was to come back to the SANFL it would be to Centrals and he might be able to sway Todd over to Elizabeth as well (and bring other brother Alex if he gets cut from Hawthrorn (I think ?)

No, the player I speak of might have played 1 league game, I can't quite remember, but he was a highly rated recruit when he came over, not really living up to expectations. He has had a pretty solid 2 or 3 years in the VFL though and would be very handy for the side looking at recruiting him.

The Kangaroos also delisted Eddie Sansbury, who played just one senior game this season after playing all three finals matches for the Roos last year

He probably should have waited to even mention it on here if he wasn't going to name the player.

I think you will find the Essendon bigman being spoken to my a number of SANFL clubs is Andrew Lee, was in Adelaide a few weeks ago and met Magpies, Norwood and Centrals to my knowledge. Yet to sign with anyone based on if he is on an AFL list next year.
