Im sure Burgoyne only played 2, the same as Johncock.

Leave it as it is and over time each team will benefit at some stage.

Serious question - how does this system work for umpires?
Do the umps still gravitate up and down between SANFL and AFL? If so, is there any eligibility criteria for them when it comes to umpiring SANFL finals?

More SANFL games than AFL games, with a minimun number of SANFL games of 5. League, reserves and under age games all count as SANFL games. Being available during the SANFL bye and being a travelling emergency both count as a game. If a player plays finals while the AFL team is still alive then that counts as well. Would only consider exception for players injured who didn't play AFL for the year and managed only a handful of SANFL games, although I would doubt many clubs would really want those players in a finals line up. Perhaps would allow a player who played in the SANFL team's previous final before a grand final to retain their place for the grand final.

Would ensure AFL guns returning to SANFL wouldn't have a massive impact because they managed a few games earlier in the year, while not forcing the blokes who are in and out most of the year, miss a month or so with injury etc to miss out. Ie, I think it's completely fair for Matt Westhoff to play SANFL finals. Missed a chunk of the season with an injury and played a couple of AFL games for experience. He's a genuine SANFL player at the moment. Reilly is basically an AFL player who worked his way back through injury and poor form to scrape 3 games. Dew should never have been available for 2000 (it was nice though) since he was in the same position that season as Reilly was this.

Why? Who said these are the best options?

The old SANFL system was if you played 14 or more games in the grade above you couldn't go down. Glenelg had this issue with Craig McRae before he played his 14th game in the reserves in 1992 after playing the first 5 in the 19s....
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

I would be happy with a system where players that came through their club would qualify with 3-5 matches and the other players playing more SANFL matches than AFL to qualify.
For every one I miss I am closer to a hole in one.

I voted in the 5 - 10 bracket, It should be adjusted to 5 games, that gives a sensible ammount of games to get qualified for the finals, 3 games can be very wishy washy, especially if you played the first 3 in the SANFL then the rest of the year in the AFL, dosent seem fair to the team that has been instrumental in getting the team into the final five that some players could get the flick because a name has played in only 3.

Anyway not much use worrying about it as the head boffins wont do anything about changing it.
I wish my remembering was as good as my forgetting

I'm agreeing with the Centrals boys here  Grahaml and Dogmatic have it about right with more games in SANFL (all grades) than AFL (wouldn't bother with the exceptions Grahaml). Like the idea travelling emergency counts as games in SANFL too, and think Dogmatic's idea of lesser requirements for native players is a great one - these are the guys who will want to play anyway, not the interstate blow ins who see SANFL as a dirty hole they want to get out of ASAP!

Im just stunned at the amount of AFL listed players who are injured and unavailable for SANFL finals.

AGAIN AGAIN AGAIN AGAIN seems to be the Staus Quo ....

Change it to 4 and also one of those 4 has to be in the last 6 rounds of the season, unless they have played more than half the season with their SANFL club

IE:

JO GUN is with the crows and plays the first 4 games at the sanfl then the rest of the year at AFL level he is not elligible.

Jo FLOP is with the power and plays the first 16 weeks in the AFL and finishes the year with his SANFL club will be elligible

JO AVERAGE is with crows and plays 12 games with norwood and 10 at the crow is elligible even if he does not play sanfl in the last 6 rounds.
