From late in the second, Woodville (sic) played with 100% intensity. Their workrate was simply superior to Glenelg's. Tactically I think Ronny was on top; the Eagles had numbers choking every ball-up and stoppage; they clamped down on Glenelg's ability to clear the ball from the stoppages by throwing in their weight in numbers. I'm very surprised to hear that Glenelg avtually won the clearances.
Conversely Glenelg's forwards had a very, very dirty day. The Bays did manage to wrangle their share of the ball, but the forwards let the team down badly. I can accept spraying shots under pressure, but when all of these miss it's a matter of bad luck... and when players have set shots and miss then it's something else entirely. I wouldn't put all the blame on the forwards... several times a Glenelg player running forwards managed to pick out a Warriors jumper with a handball. And in the second term when that #3 for them took a shot from the boundary line and kicked it wide - where was the defensive pressure after the kick? The sod managed to sprint to the goalsquare and receive a pass from the Eagle who marked the ball with little duress. Slack, Bays. Slack.
It would have been something of a travesty if Glenelg had got up, such was the Eagles' effort. I hope the players are made to watch the video of the second half. That is the sort of intensity they'll be up against in the finals - and that is the sort of intensity they'll be required to dish out.
