We tried to get the Gowans off guard a bit when we got smashed at the Ponderosa a few weeks back, particularly when we saw one of them coming off the ground, but to his credit, they were professional and ignored us.

Jars on 5AA right now, just said that Lonie copped a spray about his late father from a member of the Dogs crowd...poor form if it happened...I must admit, Lonie was the last person I would have expected to have a blow up with a member of the crowd...

Whoever it was, you ought to be ashamed of yourself.

He cops a lot of flak Lonie, but having a crack about his dead father is a disgrace.

No argument from me Macca...that is the lowest of the low.

And this shouldn't turn into a Dogs supporter bashing thread either...every club has idiots that do this sort of thing...the only thing you can do if you hear a comment that is grossly over-the-top and unwarranted, is pull the person up on it...without starting a fight I suppose.

PS - I blame Centurion.

Had whoever made the comment had enough gummy bears to suck on  he wouldn't have had a mouth to use so poorly...

Ive had time to think about this and I'll actually go into bat for the Central supporter/s!

I wasn't aware Nathan's father had recently passed away recently, Im sure most Central's supporter would also have not been aware of this.

Maybe the Central's fan made a comment about Lonie's father not knowing he'd passed away recently, Lonie obviously being sensitive with the recent passing of his father took offence and went off at the fan and it probably went back and forth from there.

I honestly doubt that a Centrals fan knew Lonie's father had recently passed away and decided to take advantage of this fact.
Don't get me wrong he's scum if he did but I doubt he would have been aware of the conotations of what he was saying not knowing of Nathan's father's recent passing.

Play on IMHO.

Wedgie the implication from Jars was that the comment was specifically about Lonie's father passing away

I wasn't there to verify so only going by Jars' comments

Maybe it was "Bazza", the North supporter. My cousin was telling me yesterday that "Bazza" was giving Lonie a heap of shtick all day!

You reckon, I was standing right at the interchange fence in my role with LifeFM as boundary rider (for you Dutchy  ) and didn't see any interaction with the crowd whatsoever. All I witnessed was the frustrated Gowans twins getting bronx cheers whenever they came from the field. Interaction would involve Chris or James giving it back to the crowd, like the classic Lonie example. Sorry Brad, you're off the mark a bit there mate

Nah Im not off the mark.

Yeah, you are Brad... :?

You tell me one instance from Sturday when either of the Gowans twins "interacted" with the crowd. Yes, the crowd took pleasure in giving them the bronx cheers and jibes but interaction involves more than one party responding to something and contuining on in that matter. So, let's face it, you are off the mark mate

Big Phil, I think you might need to have a word with Phil Hearden and the Life FM team. I was listening on line and I quite clearly heard either PH or JN say that one of the Gowans was getting a spray from the Rooster fans, when he got pulled for the 25mtr penalty. (I even made mention of it on the gameday thread on the Roost). Then one of them (not sure which one it was though) definitely said that Gowans had come out off the bench and was giving the fans a spray back.

A bit of banter between the players and the crowd is harmless and adds to the spectacle IMO as long as comments are not racist or too personal (e.g.family members deaths etc) then everyone is "fair game".

John,

I was positioned smack bang in the middle of the interchange gates, right on the boundary line fence and I saw and commented every interchange from both sides. James Gowans got dragged for his indiscretion and at of course copped the bronx cheers but trust me, at no stage did he give anything back to the crowd. I will say he had to get straight on the phone / headset up to Roy Laird and from what I could see and hear, James didn't listen to a word of Roy's, just took his frustration out by carrying on and throwing the head set back to the bench.

A bit of a dummy spit one would say. As for Chris Gowans, he came off for rotations throughout the course of the game and at no stage did he go back at the crowd. The boys calling it from the back of the stands must have assumed he was going back at them but I was 5 metres away from them the whole game and didn't see anything to suggest otherwise, trust me.

Absolutely not TB, both those 2 gentleman have been great to work with and I love talking to them discussing all things football. All I am saying is that with their restricted views, at the back of the grandstand and 150m away from the interchange bench, I think my position of right next to the interchange stewards box is slightly better from an obvserving point of view.

I know what I saw and heard and to be honest, I must admit that I was actually suprised to witness the Gowans boys NOT give something back to crowd who were jeering them off. They certainly took their frustration out in other ways both on the field and on the headset to Roy Laird but at no stage did I see them "interact" with the crowd in the literal sense of that word.

Phil Herden graces these pages from time to time...I'd love to see if Phil H was to admit he was wrong, or suggest that you are wrong BP, and that he did see something from up in his commentary position...

Given Phil's reputation, I don't think he is in the business of fabricating things to boost the call...

Could you not have turned away for a brief second to get the comb out of your sock, and give the locks three golden strokes, when the apparent crowd vs. Gowans interaction could have occurred?

Interesting question TB

I do not recall Chris or James Gowans interacting with the crowd during the game, the crowd certainly gave James plenty when he was dragged off. Thus I dont remember commentating on it.

I remember making a comment that Roy Laird was probably on the phone when James came off so having copped a spray from the fans he was probably going to get another one from Roy. Its very possible I mis communicated that to insinuate he was giving one back. Can't remember to be honest.

I don't remember John making a comment but then again there are many times when John is commentating that I am focussing on bringing up around the ground scores on the laptop so I could have missed it.

Big Phil was certainly in perfect position to note anything if it did happen.
