No, but it would have only needed some Centrals supporters to achieve that target

Hmmm, an INCREASE in the crowd surely would have INCREASED the I.Q? BTW, we're a pretty intelligent lot, we just don't want to show off :)

I'd say redandblack was thinking of average, not cumulative.

also while i'm at it, umpiring in the last quarter was a complete joke. Twice port players dropped the bell while being tackled only to be given free kicks for hanging on and then no more than a couple of minutes later a couple of holding the balls where the player had no chance of getting rid of it were also a joke. Had no impact on the result mind you but methinks that the umpires have been given the direction of getting port into the finals anyway possible.

bloods08, I've also highlighted that matter earlier.

It suddenly seemed totally out of context with the rest of the game and Port finished with an 11-3 free kick count in the last quarter alone.

It wasn't so much the one-sided nature of the frees as the fact they umpired totally differently in the last quarter.

You get used to it.

I'll post a summary of SANFL umpiring soon. It's in a sorry state, however self-satisfied they might feel about it.

DAMIEN CUPIDO racial slurs

Postby mal » Wed Aug 13, 2008 11:01 am

The West Adeliade football club has rightly made a press release on the racial abuse targeting star player Damien Cupido.
Disgraceful spectators have repeatedly racially slurred Cupido for some time now.
This abuse was again apparent during the WA V PA game last week.
It is alledged a group of PA supporters gave Cupido a barrage of abuse in that game.

This is pathetic !
Its time the SANFL make these abusive supporters accountable for thier actions.
The abuse would be heard by children.

CUPIDO
A marvellously talented entertaining footballer
He brings to the SANFL an extreme talent
I really enjoy watching him play footy, and he is one of my favourite players in the SANFL

GAMES
I have several times in WA games made comments to the Cupido abusers and vented my disapproval at them.
Why do spectators have a go at a guy like Cupido?
If he was extroverted I might understand the abuse
Ali/Akermanis/Mundine are extroverts and if you give it out you gotta expect to cop it back
Cupido on face value is not extroverted.

SUMMARY
Yes he's laconic, looks a bit overweight at times and perhaps deserves a sMALl roast from spectators
BUT
No one deserves to be racially abused

Damien your a star and I for one will roll up and applaud your efforts and also defend you.

Racial slars aside MAL which are a no no, do you defend Jautin McConnell from the overweight jibes he receives from spectators...

Not saying you should, but I think MOST of the criticism Cupido cops in the SANFL is as a result of having an open slate at Vilis...
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

Hopefully Port dispose of the mental midgets that would act like that.

Honestly, from a club thats housed Wanganeen, the Burgoynes, the Bonds, Mcleod, Cockatoo-Collins', O'Loughlin and still has guys like Johncock, Krakour, Clinch, Miller (though hes left now) etc etc, you'd expect racial taunts would be the last thing the "cheer" squad would come out with.

Totally agree with that Mal irrespective of which SANFL club is involved.

Maybe the best way of dealing with it is simply to make an example of someone by having a legal representative stand in the crowd and identify the slander and a culprit then have defamation proceedings brought against them in the supreme court. You would think that would only have to happen once to cut down on 90% or so of these incidents in the future.

Or a better job description and made to follow it via reduction of payments (to the company not the staff) for not completing job requirements.

Soj, thats starting to sound a little too much "big brother" to me.

Don't get me wrong, I hate bigotted comment on any level, racial, sexist etc and have had to fire a couple of staff in the past for doing so but I think Wedgie is heading down the path I would rather be taking.

TM80
Call him fat/lazy/laconic/slack/or whatever you like they are traits he has become by design
All of the above[if applicable] are his choices and if people wanna be critical sobiet
BUT
Todays report in the press was about some Port suPORTers being racist
Cupido was born what he is, that should be respected.

Besides everything else he is an entertainer and people should applaud his exquisitness

He did cop alot of abuse but none of the racist remarks came from the cheer squad. If they did the head of the CS would have asked them to leave. Why would the CS racially abuse someone when they have that type of abuse would offend some if its own members.

Port has also coped all of the from this when Cupido siad that it has been going on for weeks, all of the clubs need to stamp out this behavour not only Port.

Oh well, I guess that makes it okay then, so long as Port supporters didn't do anything other supporters do.

I never said that the Port supporters who did it don't deserve what people are saying about them. but to me it does sound like Port has coped all of the flak for it. I belaive that Racial abuse is low and in my opinion i don't wont those Port supporters that did it at games as it does down grade the club. The Article in the paper did say that he has copped it for weeks so the problem is more far spread then just Port supporters. It has just come public this week and it is being made to sound like Port are the only ones that have done it.

And why would i say that all the clubs including Port need to stamp out the behavour if i thought it was ok.

Anyone that does yell racial abuse at players should recieve automatic ejection from the ground and even be banned from games. I don't want my kids hearing racist remarks at the footy.
