This isnt and arguement about best callers etc...can anyone else back up what I heard? I dont want to be sledging someone or making a formal complaint if I heard it wrong.

One thing i will say it was obviously pre-meditated, you cant ad lib something like that, which makes it worse IMO, it wasnt a slip of the toungue, he was waiting all day to say it...

Can't help you because I didn't hear the call. but your point about the comment being pre-meditated and waiting all day to use it is a valid one. This is the part that annoys me about Dennis Commetti's commentary at times. It's obvious he contrives a comment he thinks is amusing and will throw it in whether it has anything to do with the play or not.

If I wanted comedy I'd watch a Billy Connolly DVD thanks very much.

I didn't hear the call .But does 5rph have a problem with just Eagle games or with all games ? At Richmond I nearly got up to tell them to stop calling passador the raging bull .As they were sitting behind me and thats all u could hear.!!!

Maybe they were refering to Coach Ron Fuller , Mickyj . Isnt he the raging bull (sh--ter ) , especially after dropping Adam Grocke yesterday ? Andrew Rogers is also an outstanding candidate if it was no personality they were discussing at the time ! Definately a case of the blind leading the blind at the Eagles with these two , what do you think Mickyj ?

No, it's not just Eagles games. They seem to love this Rex Hunt crap of calling players by their self-imposed nicknames rather than their real names. This only serves to annoy the listenener, but the callers seem to think it's clever for some reason.

There's one player (can't remember who it is) they keep calling the "love chocolate", and it gets on my nerves. Just call the damned players' names ... and just call the game!!!

Because this match was described in the Advertiser as "inconsistent as the female mind". Imagine if that was said or published now!

Spelly, permit me to digress ... wizard with stats we know you are but how the hell did you remember that description of the match from 33 years ago????

That would be Biasci (sp), also used to call Nick Gill (real nickname Emu) the wild man of Borneo. I can live with the nicknames as long as I know who they are talking about, but you're right, would be better if they just called the players by their names.

Excuse my ignorance, but what's the correlation between Biacsi and chocolates?

I recall a female friend of mine who knew her footy, was up with the players' names, but hadn't heard Rex Hunt before. She was in Melbourne and tuned into 3AW for the footy and copped Hunt. She said she had absolutely no idea what he was talking about or which players (or team) had the ball.

To me it's self-indulgent crap and God only knows why Hunt has proliferated the air waves for as long as he has. We rely on radio callers to be our eyes, and paint a mental picture of the action. When the listener is struggling to picture the game, the caller is not doing their job.

I have no idea AH. just answering the question. Agree 100%, they are the eyes of the listener and calling Biacsi a love chocolate is a mental picture I prefer not to have

Obviously we don't have too many romantic men out there...

They refer to Biasci because it sounds like BACI (pronounced B..A..H...C..H..I..) which is a little chocolate, known as a Baci Kiss...

They are a bit like the Ferrero Roche's, you know the little round ball chocolates, individually rapped up...

They are supposed to be a romantic chocolate, you buy for your girlfriend or boyfriend when you ar out for tea or something...

hence the nickname, LOVE CHOCOLATE for young Shane...

Its got nothing to do with Australians JTC, I had no idea either.
Mind you Im not the most romantic guy going around, I just suggested to Mrs Wedge that we make passionate love to celebrate the fact her "old" team won by almost 10 goals at Prospect today, it went down like a lead balloon.

Rph do a great job of bringing us the football, stop your whinging.Maybe you would prefer no radio coverage of the SANFL?
Agreed, sometimes they can be a bit over the top,but that is just the way they are.
Without stations such as rph and life fm the SANFL is buggered.
Maybe you should take note of some of the filth and garbage your kids are watching on tv?
