Why isn't there a national standard which all Aussie Rules can gather under one umbrella..?

For the good of the game.

I think too many ego's are involved..!

Who should take control of our game?

SANFL or AFL..?

Someone has to stand up and someone has to take a backward step for the good of the game.
Smile :)

It's only Money $$$ :)

What is happening to our SANFL guys...

I think so but Telstra will be working on that just as they are on trying to persuade the new Federal government to let them have the Broadband monopoly - same technique - putting up more money and planning to suck it back, with interest, out of the customers once they do have the monopoly. [Said he as a Telstra shareholder.]

Neither - how about a National Australian Football League, not based in Melbourne or run by the remnants of the old VFL?!

Yes, but only after they have hooked the AFL and Broadband fish, and have the extra revenue in hand.
[They'll probably start buying Coles or Woolworth/Safeway shares rather than go in directly - they may already hold some.]

Yes, I know. Mainly because the VFL wouldn't go along with anything they were not running.

Good idea - take them to SANFL matches and get everyone around you to sign them

It's reasonably late and a few reds have been had, however I've read all of the posts previous and I can't honestly believe that anyone would want to hand over our footy identity, saying that, I don't see that we have much choice,(one reason why I've been so fervent for another interstate team to join our comp in order to strenghten and consolidate the standing of the SANFL).
Take for example. Currently each AFL registered team has a licence owned by the AFL, that some clubs have had to pay for and others haven't, being old Victorian based clubs, now that the Afl control brands, club naming rights, club colours  , geurnseys  , draft concessions, sponsorship deals with other comps, rules of the game etc etc.
So what happens when we hand over naming rights to the AFL, what comes with the package, let's not fool ourselves, we've already been controlled and manipulated by the AFL in sponsorship $$$ when they demanded that we cut our club salary cap a few years ago... and we did.
It was ok for the then VFL to dominate the nations leagues with $$$ in the 70's and 80's until some VFL clubs almost went bust and they started to look outside of their own navels for want of money and start inviting the idea of an expansive VFL...NOT a TRUE AFL, and we're still paying for this now. Now that the SANFL has consolidated itself in the marketplace as a stable league and has controlled it's product in the football world as THE best state league in the nation, SUDDENLY, once again the AFL want to change the guide lines to suit themselves and their domination of the whole football market.... THIS IS ABOUT NULLIFYING COMPETITION to the AFL brand. Now the AFL are going into bat to prop up the VFL, it's a case of "it was ok for us then but not for you guy's now".
Before it was taking our best players,
then it about taking our money to join a mythical national league,
then controlling the funding to our state league and our game rules,
now it will be our naming rights as an independent league and our junior comp. structure.
I can't see it ending and I can't see anything within the AFL that fills me with any sense of altruism or fairness outside of Victoria, any concern or awareness for the culture and history of football outside of Victoria nor within Victoria and any idea that the destined path of Australian Football under the current power structure is going to benefit footy as a whole.
I can't see f---all AFL on tv anymore.
I can't see that the draw has been sorted out in anyway that's fair for ALL clubs, even before an 18 team comp.
I don't think the draft rules and father son rule is any fairer.
ETC, ETC, ETC.
Do I want this BULLSHIT(excuse me moderators, but warranted) to infiltrate MY-OUR comp and change it from what we've all worked hard to support and believe in to make it, and keep it what it is today,
AND STUFF ME IF I'LL SEE WHAT I SAW SATURDAY AT THE BAY BE LOST IN A QUOGMIRE OF A GREED FOR MONEY BY KNOBS IN SUITS TRYING TO CONSOLIDATE THEIR OWN EGO'S AND MARKET DOMINATION.
I WANT MY SANFL AND GO GET STUFFED IF YOU WANT TO F--K IT UP.

Cant find anything anywhere on the internet about Victorian AFL or Western Austalian AFL. Its VFL and WAFL.

Victoria's governing body is AFL-Victoria... the VFL is still the working title of their state competition, the WAFL is still the WAFL.

And I think it's worth mentioning that the current VFL is just a renaming of the old VFA competition. Don't think the VFA was given much choice about retaining their name.

The SANFL, we're different - a strong independent competition with clubs people care about and a 131 year history to protect!

Onya' Cutterman! Nothing like having a few reds and then giving someone a spray on SAFooty!
A lot of what you say has merit. Why can't the pigs just p1ss off and leave the SANFL alone? We have done just about everything we can to stay independant of them and they have tried everything they can to undermine us.

Yes they have Theri and the SANFL have done admirably to hold off to this degree, unfortunately with the NT now confirmed to join the QAFL we've lost any sort of leverage or bargaining power that we could've gained by it. I think that when our salary cap was determined by the AFL the gig was up, now it will be a case of what degree of control the AFL will dictate how and when we do things in our little dust bowl backwater. The reason why the AFL controls their comp. so closely, concerning licence's, jumpers, colours etc as mentioned above is to stop any breakaway schism, be it players, states, teams. Once they have all states under one happy umbrella I wonder if they'll want the same control, for example, when a player gets delisted or retires from AFL will he be a free agent to go to whichever club or state he chooses in the 2nd tier comps. Will they impose a cap on the number of ex-AFL players each SANFL club can have on their list?
Expect the VFL to be propped up in a big way in the next few years to regain it's dominance over the SANFL.

We'll all be under the one umbrella, but some will be under full cover, and some will be on the fringe getting their backs wet.
Enjoy the rain!

SMAC, don't quote me on exact details but it was about 5 years ago, SANFL clubs had caps of 800,000 or so, maybe more, not sure. The AFL thought it was unfair as all ex/aspiring AFL players were heading to the SANFL and none to the VFL so they asked if we would lower our cap and that if we didn't they'd cut our funding, which from memory they did for a short while, I'm not sure of our caps now, maybe 400,000-500,000?
We've still got the best state comp in the land though!

The AFL pressured the SANFL on the salary cap issue andthe SANFL stood firm. The AFL cut funding to development football to the tune of $400k.

This funding has since been reinstated (with some more on top for good measure) and the salary cap has remained unaffected by the AFL demands.
