Yes silly thread,
but obviously a hypothetical given the big crowd at the weekend.

If Norwood and Port get their acts together in the 2nd half of the season and sneak into the five, then we'd see some massive numbers in september.

North & Eagles would have to implode though.
Yeah, Naah,..... Bollocks!

I think people are being a little harsh on this thread!
Let your imaginations wander while the going is good. Chances are that the Grand Final will be Centrals vs whoever, but after the huge crowd at Brighton last Saturday surely the right to ponder a related hypothetical isn't that silly?
If Sturt played Glenelg in the 2008 Grand Final I reckon they would get 48,000+.
I'm gonna sit back, crack the top off a Pale Ale, and watch the Double Blues prevail

Agreed theri and I still maintain it would be a sellout, last time Sturt played a big drawing side in a GF they had an easy sell out (in 98 against Port I think)?
Demand was huge for tickets, I remember selling my members passes for $110 each!
Would be similar if the Bays made it with their bandwagon.

I think an ideal SANFL from a crowd point of view in regard to clubs that get more winning and some that are impacted upon less by winning/losing would be as follows:

1st & 2nd: Sturt and Glenelg
3rd & 4th: Port and Norwood
5th & 6th: North and Central
7th: Eagles
8th and 9th: South and West

This year so far is the closest we've had to the dream SANFL scenario for a long, long time, hence why crowds are up so significantly. If the SANFL were fair dinkum about getting big crowds to SANFL games they'd rig it so it was like this every year!

as a matter of interest what was the 2002 gf crowd ?

i would agree that there would be 40,000+ to the game. first time since 1974 that sturt and glenelg would have played in the gf.

Tell the SANFL to print the tickets now then, it would be great to get that sort of crowd to a GF so we might as well call the season to an end now and play the GF next week at AAMI

IF and it's a big IF, the Doggies don't get there act together cme finals time to be paying in the GF themselves, I reckon a Sturt v Glenelg grannie wouldn't be a bad game to go to as a neutral supporter :?

STILL A LONG WAY TO GO LADIES AND GENTLEMAN, A LONG WAY TO GO BEFORE FINALS ACTION !!??

GO U DOGGIES... :D

Just in case you weren't aware Smithy, they are called "emotiocons"... 8)

For example... a  is a wink, you know wink, wink nudge, nudge, when you are having a joke or not being serious, just trying to have a laugh, just like this one  = laugh or funny)

I simply use them to apply to the relevant point(s) within my post  (Sorry, that last was was a roll of the eyes)

If you have trouble understanding the meaning behind the individual icons, hold your cursor over it and it tells you what it means... :?

FFS, don't worry about the bloody smiley faces I use, there are worse offenders on this site than me, just keep this topic on track by telling me how many Sturt supporters will go to AAMI when the Double Blues play the Bays in this years GF

Big Phil... :D :D :D (just for you mate  )

40K isn't a silly estimate. The Bays still have a lot of latent support. You see them at Football Park every second week ;)

People are bored with Centrals every year, the've got a "Port factor" (Oh no.. not them again) going now, so a few more would turn out for something different.
It's all the SANFL's fault.

What people are you talking about who are getting bored with Centrals in GF's Barto...

I reckon there is about 15,000 Doggies supporters / followers who will disagree with that comment mate

In saying that, I love footy and the SANFL so much, I'd go to the GF even if Centrals weren't playing, as a neutral fan... 8)

I'm not bored of beating Centrals in grand finals, at least we have a 100% record there.
