Spot on - I think all clubs don't mind having 3 byes over the season to freshen up although the bye early in the year (Rounds 1-6?) probably doesn't fit that theory.

All the league has to do is program the matches (and byes) a little more evenly over the season. There is a good piece in an article on the nafc website about the draw this year which rings true in terms of the odd way matches are programmed in 2008 - here is what it says:

The abnormalities of the SANFL draw

Our Club would prefer Clubs to simply play each other on a far more regular basis than the 2008 program has allowed. Consider the following:

Sturt twice within ourfirst eight games
South travel to Prospect twice - May and June, before hosting a home game [Round 18]
North play Port twice at Alberton - April and June, before hosting the Magpies in late August [Round 21]

If they can fix that then a 9 team comp will be good for all.

Well, it used to be evenly spaced out (I could even make up next years draw using the corrent format) but because clubs request different things at different times, that's why we get what we get now.

I'm not sure how this rubbish came about, IIRC the draw was less like a dogs breakfast in the early days after the Hybrids we're spat out onto the SA footy landscape.
It's all the SANFL's fault.

Whilst this is always a lot of fun the WWTFC has been in existence since 1991 and will continue to be a club focussed on success.

Sadly our performance this year is not as any of us would wish. Yet we are just half a game from the 5 so not yet out of the picture.

If you wish your club to receive approx $50,000 less every year in the future due to dividend being shared by 10 then go ahead.

We are and will remain the WOODVILLE WEST TORRENS EAGLES.

Thanks. I cant read anymore.

Perhaps the clubs need to stay out of it for the sake of something more logical.

To unmerge is to go backwards.

A mistake.

Invent a new team or merge another.

We must rid ourselves of this Bye...

WWT merged for a reason .. does that reason still exist or not?

With attendances scraping 10,000 with only 4 games a weekend, will another team and a revamp of the draw make any difference to this?

I don't think a demerger is the answer .. another team perhaps .. and there are plenty of takers: NT, Tas, another SA team ... after all, the N in SANFL stands for National ...
But yes, it was a pretty pointless comment wasn't it?!

The attendance figures would not increase more than temporarily with another team. I think the SANFL has to recognise that the local competition attracts the numbers it does and that is that. 8 teams is more realistic, and I would accept my team, Norwood, being part of a merger with a neighbouring team on balanced terms if it came to that.

Maybe that could be a good thing, and to keep the Doggies fans happy let them join the AFL and move the Power to the Gold Coast (see seperate topic http://www.safooty.net/forum/viewtopic.php?f=11&t=15905&p=422954&hilit=Gold+coast#p422954 )
