7 3.7.....4.1
8 5*......11.3
9 6.0.....11.7
10 9*....5*
11 5*....11*
12 5*....4*
13 10.6..6.2
14 3*....4*
15 8*....3.7
16 12*...8.2

That was in the days when the full forward got a free kick if the ball was kicked out of bounds by the opposition untouched?

Well, not the full forward, just the closest player I assume. That was the rule, yes, the last person to touch the ball before it went out of bounds resulted in a free to the opposition. If it couldn't be decided as to who touched it last, the boundary umpire threw the ball in. But I think before either 1935 or 1934, the boundary umpire bounced the ball about 5 metres in.

And in those days, the boundary umpire signalled out of bounds by waving a handkerchief!

When Chambers does reach 500 goals, he will become just the 21st player to do so, and the last player to reach that was Darren Smith.

How many did Nichols kick in 86 and 87?

I only had records that he kicked 100+ in 1986 and 1988, but the Media Guide says he kicked 108 in 1987.

1986: 103

The 80's was a great time for 100 goal full forwards, especially for Woodville. Nichols kicked the ton for 3 straight years 1986 - 103, 87 - 108 and 88 - 103. Blighty kicked 126 in 1985 and Pierson kicked 104 in 1982. After 4 tons in a row 1985-88 Allen Jakovich let the side down in 1989 only kicking a miserly 85 goals!

Grenville has the unlucky record of being the only player to kick 100 goals more than once and still not be the leading goalkicker, and they were consecutive years 83 & 84.

In fact 1983 was a cracker year for forwards with 4 reaching the mark. Rick Davies 151, Neville Roberts 111, Grenville Dietrich 109 and Roger Luders 105. 1982 also had 3 with Tim Evans 125, Trevor Pierson and Greg Edwards kicking 104.

Chambers is an out and out champion...I hope he breaks the 100 goals mark again, but gets fluff all against us this weekend...

Nichols definitely did not get 108 in 1987 - that would be with the Night Games added.
