The Eagles were very ordinary today - not to take anthing away from Sturt who played superbly. The double blues right now are the deserved flag favourite. With many winners around the ground incl best on ground Herring and he wa ably supported by Sheedy, Chambers with 7 goals, Evans, Crane and Thompson. I thought McGregor tried hard all day but didn't have anyone helping him. I have many questions to ask of the Eagles coaching box at the moment - What in the f*#k are you doing Ronnie please do us all a big favour and quit. We'll be a lot better football club without you at the helm. Once again congratultions to the Sturt FC - you handed us a footy lesson.

I'm not sure of the circumstances but it seems that Charlie wasn't on the team sheet at the start of the game and was told he couldn't play so he changed out of his jumper and stood in the crowd, only to get a call later in the game to get his clobber back on and play, apparently the club could take a fine to remedy the problem. Something the club really has to comment on though.

Sadly for us another record set today by the Sturt FC.

First time ever the Sturt FC has won all 4 grades in a round against us.

What is the story there?

Relaying what I was told:

team manager made an error in the team he submitted to the league, Sharples wasn't listed, Sturt were told he couldn't play so he was made to sit on the bench. Sturt told that they could play him but a $1000 fine. Sturt wore the grand to get him on the field.

PS: Are the Eagles imploding?
It's all the SANFL's fault.

What I think has happened at Oval Ave is we are paying the price for 2006.Two people were promised jobs when Ron left/retired .He didnt they moved on,and won the battle today .
Secondly recruiting has not been good since 2006, other clubs have caught up with the EAGLES.
Imploding no i dont think so.
Dropping back to the pack yes.
New Ideas needed a new Broom to sweep out the old regime and bring in new ideas .
And whoever takes over must have a touch of mongrel in him .
That is of course if it is Rons last year no one really seems to know if Ron's contract runs out the end of 2008.

And nothing should be taken away from Sturt they were better today .

Brilliant result today in terms of rectifying some of these stats from Spelly:

spell_check wrote:Sturt's highest score against Eagles, beating 19.9 (123) in Round 4 1994, which was actually a losing score
The previous highest winning score by Sturt against Eagles was 17.19 (121) in Round 3 2002. This match was the other win at Woodville and was Sturt's highest score against Eagles at Woodville.
Lowest score by Eagles against Sturt at Woodville, previous lowest was 9.11 (65) in Round 6 1999, which was actually a winning score.

And we still are Sturt's bitches under the SAFooty Bitch Rules, but most likely only until the Unley match.

The bits I have put in bold are the ones that bothered me the most.
It just isn't a good thing for a footy club's highest score to be a losing score.
Nor is it good that the opponent's lowest score to be a winning one.
From now, when we think of our best effort against the Eagles it will be of a gallant effort in which we smashed numerous records, with only 17 fit men for most of the first half, no interchange for most of the game, and one ruckman down after only 5 minutes. All on their home ground.
Not meaning to gloat here, which is why I have acknowledged our previous shortcomings, basically I just want to highlight how great it is to have those shortfalls in the record books rubbed out.
On the downside, very sad to hear about Feast, the massive effort he has put in whenever he has donned the Sturt guernsey could not be realised today. In all the celebration that must be going now, it is a real shame that one of our perennial contributors couldn't spend more than 5 minutes on the field that was so keenly won by his team mates. I hope he makes a speedy recovery and is even more influential when he returns.
Finally, I don't understand how the Eagles could be Sturt's bitches
I'm gonna sit back, crack the top off a Pale Ale, and watch the Double Blues prevail

Geddes performance was the only positive of the day for me. He has got some intensity into his game to go along with skills that can make him into a good league footballer. McGregor and Fiacchi, as expected, performed admirably. As for the rest...

It was interesting the tactics of MacGowan at CHF. Perrie is the usual go to man, but he almost played as decoy, running up to the wing and taking McGregor out of the corridor. This left Herring one out on McKenzie and obviously the Sturt coaching crew knew something... That was, that McKenzie couldn't get out of first gear and wouldn't play close and respect his opponent. Most likely due to injury. I've never seen McKenzie turn out a performance like that before and I'm not going to hold that against him, because he has been above and beyond for 99% of his career. What I am critical of is the Eagles coaches refusing to make the move before half time. Do they need to sit down and discuss at a break before they make a change? We had Schwarze on the bench, Roberts in the forward line and McGregor picking up Perrie on the wing. Three options which weren't used. That was costly. Of course, Herring played very well and perhaps no one would have stopped him anyway.

I did notice that Mackenzie was down on his normal form. But he was far worse when he returned from injury against Norwood!! Are the team trained to hard or have they lost the DESIRE again Aerie!!
