Doesnt look like Picketts sick father was mentioned in the thread untill after the article wouldve gone to print, and saying he looked like he needs match fitness.... geez I'm suprised if he really needed a source for that one :-k

Gets the all clear from what I read, and really it is a gossip column, he's not writing a doctorate

Entities for any form of viable gain without EXPLICIT WRITTEN APPROVAL from "

And I bet the paper didnt copy anything i said last week

Its the fact that its using the same words. Last weeks Vincent Urbancic 'one to watch' was word for word and its simply not his work. Thats the problem I have it IS NOT his work. He's a cheat! Any fool can do this just ask Roger Phillis?

What do you think of Roger Phillis Dogwatcher?

Journalists have plenty of sources....this is just one of them.

So whats the harm/difficulty in acknowledging the source?

Have never ever bought the line "if we revealed our source we wouldn't get the story" crap from journalists. To easy a front to print mis-truths IMO. Not saying that is the case in this point but the whole debate around the journalistic professions' picking and choosing when it is or isn't appropriate to reveal their sources.

I wish could have printed what I wanted when wringting my Master's dissertation wothout naming my sources - the data would have fitted perfectly to my hypothesis and would have been s much easier....

We've used comments made by posters on here in stories, but we did the right thing by acknowledging the site as the source.
It's good for the site, a free plug, if your SOURCE it from here, no problems, copy it from here, acknowledge the site.
It's a modern world, journalists have more means of securing information now more than ever.
Nothing wrong with utilising a fine source.

It's an easy job being a journo in the Google Age.

There's a lot of copy/paste from Big Footy with regards to AFL stories.

Very lazy writing and they were exposed when someone on a forum made up a rumour about a player to see how far it would go.
It's all the SANFL's fault.

I mentioned on the thread about Journo's making errors, about Robert Shirley being 28 not 26 as reported in "The Goss", and today there's a correction :P

I personally don't hold the 'media' in very high esteem but just to play devils advocate.

Don't you think it's possible that someone else on the planet also spotted the error and maybe contacted the paper directly.

Isn't it also possible that people email or phone the media with items seen on here or elsewhere. You only have to watch rolling news stations to see how people are falling over themselves to send in news/pictures etc.

Rucci quoted his source regarding the Barrie Robran making light of The Goodwin betting dramas . Then got told the official club web site was not public information and should not be quoted.Wonder what he would do next time.?
