Cant defend his coaching nor his radio career... but as a player the man is a champion. Your views are typically port adelaide.

Yep still think he was over-rated....slow, cumbersome etc etc etc .......was a reasonable work-horse at best....................

evans01 - Who would you consider the better player.......Chris McDermott, Darren Smith, Rohan Smith, Alf Steed, Simon Tregenza or David Hutton.

Not having a go, just a reply.

most user will shoot me for saying this but one of the best player in the Port Adelaide era, who many consdered a match winner on his day, even though his time with the crows was poor is Darren Smith, strong mark, good kick and multiple premiership player.....you have to remember at the time he was one of the most important cogs in the magpie wheel.........and part of a hugely successful era....

Keith Kuhlman always gave him a bath !
Seriously though Chris was a fantastic player for both the crows and glenelg, either you did'nt see him play too often or your taking the p**s
if you continue to disrespect a Glenelg champion you are going to cop heaps of flak.

so you consider abuse acceptable on a website that doesnt tolerate it????

You were seeking that obviously. No-one would have said such a thing without trying to stir a response of that sort. I asked you to explain how someone could have such high credentials in south australian and australian football and be a hack and you wont answer. The All australian selectors must be pretty poor to select a guy 3 times in that era of Chris's ilk if he was such a hack. You drew that response by preying on a glenelg champion. You knew it would come eventually. Completely deserved.

I'm not try to troll at all.......!!!!!
and i never called McDermott a hack, my point was and is i dont think he was a great player sure he was a good solid long serving player who lead the club to premierships..........but by the time the crows came along he was to old and well past his best...............there is no question that he has achieved great things but i personally dont nor ever had considered him to be a great player especially if you compare him to other south australian around the era eg John Platten, Stephen Kernahan, Craig Bradley etc etc etc............
McDermott was a tough workhorse but speed was not one of his attributes......which was to his detriment...................sure he made up for that in many ways with his toughness and use of handball............

I heard that in the early 90's Chris McDermott was voted ugliest man in the AFL.
Greg Anderson was voted best looking apparently.

You may not of actually used the word "Hack" however you did say "he couldnt play", that is showing a true great of SA football
no respect, this is why you are copping it and rightly so. And also as Theri pointed out, please explain your comment about not getting a game in the current Glenelg reserves or have you embarrased yourself enough ?

NO you did not call him a "hack".. but the inference was that he was one. You came into this conversation saying he was an "over rated player". You said he "couldnt play". You made the childish statement that in any other era he would not have got a game in the glenelg ressies.

Now...you state he is a hard worker, "achieved GREAT things"...made up for his lack of speed with other assets, his loyalty lead to premierships.... seriously... I think you should vacate this topic as your credibility is zilch on this topic.

And I personally love the way Glenelg supporters defend their champions. Good on us! Bet Daisy Smith would have loved some of that loyalty from his own supporters to go with all the footballing qualities you reeled off.
