As for my comments re. supports Matt The Panther - I live down South, and I know MANY South supporters, yet none of them are proud of how the club is going, and has been going, and have not been anywhere near interested in going to South games for years. Sorry TigerBoss,

I cant take any of your comments posted seriously, I'm figuring everything you post is a joke BECAUSE....

I just noticed your signature underneath your avatar and absolutely pissed myself laughing...

Getting a bit ahead of yourself their aren't you mate, we are not even half way through the year... 8)

There is still a lot of footy to be played before Grand Final Day mate... :?

I guess if you are a red coater or cnateen assistant, you can say you'll be at AAMI on GF day, but if you are implying you'll be there to watch you Bays play in the last game of the year, the final dance... you might find yourself a little let down when it doesn't eventuate

Just giving you a bit of sh!t mate, only kidding  :D

back to the topic at hand, I don't think Slatts would be a look in based on his poor performances with the reserves to date... ??

I agree with you to some degree. However over the last few years South have tried several high pofile coaches and recruits meanwhile many of the Southern area's best players would rather play in the local leagues in the GSFL and the SFL.

Barry Pilmore and Trevor Potts have strong reputations and local players may be more inclined to want to play for South.

A completely different kettle of fish not quite the SFL and GSFL are both excellent local leagues and a Pilmore or Potts coaching would be greatly enhanced by a full time gig surely.

Will be interesting to see how he goes!

Hopefully he was a player that gave both Robert Pyman and John Cahill his 100% support if not I see some bad karma from the Footy Gods most likely on the way!

Wasn't sure initally but when I sat down and thought about it maybe some good may come out of this SNAFU.

Clay Meets the following criteria :

    1. 64 AFL games including the 1997 GF with Adelaide.
    2. Extensive SANFL experience.
    3. A dedicated Panther.
    4. Has been coached
      At South Adelaide by:
        John Reed (I think).
        Ken Sheldon.
        Greg Anderson.
        Rob Pyman.
        Gary Cameron
      In the AFL by:
        Neil Balme at Melbourne.
        Malcolm Blight at Adelaide
        Jeff Gieschen and
        Danny Frawley at Richmond
So he's probably got some idea of what to do and what not to do
    5. The Supporters will be behind him 100%
    6. Maybe it's time to do something radical.
    7. Wants the job.

The important thing though is for him to have a committment from the Board to keep their sticky noses out.

Not sure if it's radical . Radical would be Marg Angove .But the list of coaching is interesting.

Has been coached

At South Adelaide by:
John Reed (I think). ??So
Ken Sheldon. Big mistake getting rid of him. IMO this is when your problems really started.
Greg Anderson. So
Rob Pyman. mmmmm
Gary Cameron So
In the AFL by:

Neil Balme at Melbourne. Would have learnt a lot
Malcolm Blight at Adelaide Ditto
Jeff Gieschen and SoDanny Frawley at Richmond ???

Half these blokes got the sack , so I suppose he would have learnt not to get comfy

There's one certainty in Clay Sampson doing the job, he's not doing it just for the dough unlike his predecessor!!

PILMORE OR POTTS

There's a huge difference between the local leagues and SANFL.
The Best Players would rather play local  ?????? Who are these players.
The thug who whacked Young Rowey, Jorolofkey was Morphett Vales best player and cant get a game at South. Says a lot for the local comps down there. He was apparently the best player in the competition. You've got to be kidding Navy or get out and have a look at the 2nd best competition in Australia.

Yeah your right the SANFL is the 2nd best league in Australia (I have played in it for two clubs). Sam Joraslafsky the best player in the SFL you've got to be kidding prehaps its you redandblack00 that is the one that needs to get out and have a look at the strength and quality of the SFL and the GSFL before you make another ill informed comment like that one.

The way I was looking at the possibility of getting a local legend like Pilmore or Potts is they know the local leagues and maybe might be able to generate abit of passion to take the next step in some reluctant players. There's no doubt that down South many players have been content to play local footy rather than play for the panthers for whatever reason (I think it could have alot to do with SAFC never being based down South until Noarlunga was built and it is still trying to build up it profile). Lets not also forget these guys (Pilmore and Potts) are not full time coaches surely they would get better with a full time appointment.

As has been mentioned in another post SAFC really shot itself in the foot when it lost Sheldon.

Add to that Tony Burgess ex Marion (SFL) coach has coached the Bays
Brenton Honour ex Happy Valley (SFL) coach has coached the Bays
Ken Applegarth ex Christies Beach (SFL) has coached South

Donald Dickie current Eagle reserves coach former Sturt reserves coach ex Flagstaff Hill coach (SFL)

I'm sure there are a few more to so yes it is a big step up but not an impossible one to make yes these guys didn't have the greatest success but neither have other high profile coaches that some clubs have brought in on what I can only guess would have been far more lucrative money.

also of interest Peter Simmons ex Bays coach now Strath coach (GSFL)
