Achee's had 19 great games a year, he's bound to have a one off day & today was one of them.

LOL.
I reckon a game in October 2007 was a pretty good game for Havelberg too, along with 14 against Norwood.

What did he kick that day? It must of been a one off!

I did say FOR DIFFERENT REASONS - keep it in context!

But a little bit of credit to Havelberg wouldn't hurt, would it?

If he can kick 9 goals against the best full back in the league he has something going for him,
Its a pity it takes him 9 games 2 realise the talent he has.

SOME ARE A LITTLE SLOW!@

Has Ahchee played up forward at all this year?
Do some reasearch, and you'll find Havelberg hasn't played in our forward line all the time - he does get switched from defence. Hard to kick 9 from the backlines; just like it's hard for the "best full-back in the league" to stop FFs kicking goals when he's been set a task to do so himself.

Can we play Port every week?

NO-MERCY,

I think you should do us a favour mate and seriously have a long hard look at yourself, along with a few comments you've made of late buddy...

Let me have the pleasure in reminding you of a few strange things you actually did say and be the first to tell you that YOU WERE WRONG...

NO-MERCY wrote:1. - If he can kick 9 goals against the best full back in the league he has something going for him,
2. - Its a pity it takes him 9 games 2 realise the talent he has.
3. - SOME ARE A LITTLE SLOW!@

1. - The fact that he kicked 9 majors (only 7 were on Ahchee mate, your coach conceded that today Ahchee WASN'T the best full back in the league and had to make the move) isn't the only reason behind the young lad "having something going for him". I think you can add in his versatility to do a job in defence as well, his overhead marking ability, the goal kicking accuracy of the lad, the fact that he is ONLY 20 years old and has only played 27 games and made the State Squad are ALLother reasons as to why the kid has something going for him...

2. - I mentioned he has only played 27 games and, admittedly he hasn't been in great form the last 2 or 3 weeks, but you say "it takes him 9 games to realise the talent he has". Hang on a second mate, the lad played an awesome game in round 2, despite the poor team result, on Sturt's Ian Perrie to quell the influence of big Serge's early season run of form. It is only his second season of League football and he has the talent as shown today and the versatility, like mentioned above, to make the State Squad and obviously be amongst the best 30 or 40 odd players in the 2nd best league in the country. Yes, it was 2007 but he was one of our most consistant players last year, including that 14 goal record game which is not a bad effort for a young man who has played as little league football as Dan has mate.

3. - Like I've said above mate, I wouldn't think that the pretty impressive track record already accumulated in a short period of time, is "A LITTLE SLOW" as you put it. After todays 9 goal haul, he now has an average of about 2.5 goals which again, is not a bad effort for a young lad who can play at either end of the ground, has done so and performed admirable both in attack and defence and is only in his 2nd senior year.

Also, while I'm on a bit of a roll, let me just refresh your memory on a couple of other interesting things you had to say during the week before today's clash down at Alberton. I hope you enjoyed your COLD PIE for dinner tonight mate and how was that HUMBLE PIE you had for dessert !!?

Interstingly, you had the following to say on the "pre game" thread for the Port v Centrals clash today...
Havelberg won't get a kick on Achee sunday. Actually I don't think Port will waste their time matching Achee up on him.
As a matter of fact i think Port will win this game. As bad as Port are spasmotically playing, i don't think Centrals are setting the world on fire & they are far from the dominant side of previous years.
When Port look down & out, thats when you need to be wary of them.

Okay, so from what I can remember, Havelberg had about 8 kicks on Ahchee (BTW, you should spell your own players names right mate) of which 7 of them were goals and the other saw him set up a team mate for another Dogs goal. I guess you could say Port did eventually realise they were "wasting their time" matching Corey on young Havelberg, but I reckon it was 3 quarters and about a 10 goal Centrals lead too late wasn't it mate. You were right on one thing mate, Port are playing "spasmotically bad" as you put it, I guess they did kick 5 unanswered goals in the final term but it's not much point when you are about 80 points down.

The Dogs certainly set the "world on fire" for all their fans today throughout about 3 and 1/2 quarters of football and I can assure you mate, we certainly"dominated" your pathetic side today. Also, I would be careful implying that the Dogs wont be as "dominant" as in years gone by mate, because, although still not fully hitting our straps yet, we have a few quality players to come back in and there is still about 13 rounds to go for us to fine tune team balance and our performances before heading into another finals campaign. And finally, if opposition sides need to be "wary of a down and out Port side" and they lost today by 70 points, I'd hate to think what the Bays will do to the Maggies the week after the State Game if they are going to be even more "down and out" for this game.

Anyway, I look forward to the future "predictions" from NO-MERCY in regards to future clashes for the struggling Port Adelaide Magpies Football Club...

GO U DOGGIES...

Okay, so i was a bit over the top with my reactions to NO-MERCY's predictions of yesterday...

I guess you are right johntheclaret, it easy to say my bit after the fact, but I just think that some people (from every club) can, at times, say a bit too much and underrate players...

I guess they do so at their own peril and the actions of these blokes on the field will speak louder than words, as so brilliantly proved yesterday by Dan Havelberg...

I guess that is what is so great about a forum like this, isn't it...

EVERYONE is entitled to their opinion on anything and anyone football, but at the end of the day, some people will be right and some people will be wrong, hey ???!!!

NO-MERCY, I was a bit over the top with my response to your comments, sorry mate, I just can't help myself sticking up for my clubs players because I'm so god damn passionate about them...

Great return to form and a wonderful win by the Doggies yesterday, highlighted by a great game from Havelberg, Thommo, Sully, Buckets, Haysey, in fact almost APW. You're right though, Corey Ahchee did have a bit of a shocker, but we all know he is a good enough player (and a top bloke to boot, got drunk with him one night last year at the Sandbar down in Henley) to bounce back, hopefully this week as he is probably going to have another big task, lining up on one of the 2 big VIC goal scoring machines in Podsiadly or Sautner ???

Don't worry, I'll be cheering both Corey and the SA side just as much as I do Centrals. As much as I love Centrals and "hate" all other sides and players, I hate the Vics even more than that and will be hoping we can really show them who are the best State team outside the AFL...

johntheclaret wrote:It's easy with hinsight isn't it Big Phil.

Beforwe the weekends action, there were certainly a few disgruntled Rooster fans who were very quick to write off your chances to beat the Eagles on Sunday, then immediatley sung the praises of Jars and the players when you got up. There was even a certain site adminstrator who might have fallen into this category, slightly. :? 8)

But who was the idiot who decided to wear it against Port? Different guernseys are designed to avoid a clash, not create one!

There was only one good thing to come out of yesterdays game. We kicked more than 9 points.

Funny, I had no problem figuring out which players were on which team. The ones playing well were dogs players, and the ones playing poorly were Port players.

Good to see the game plan being played well. Now when we get more run in the legs and polish the skills (which I thought were actually a little off generally) along with Callinan, Gowans and Slattery to come back in the next few games or so will see the dogs really start to fire IMHO. Still should be regarded as the team to beat, as well as the bays are playing at the moment.

Thought the best for the dogs were O'Sullivan, Hayes, Schell, Havelberg as well as the usual suspects of Thomas and Gowans. McCabe had a rare shocker, even making errors that cost us goals! O'Hara looks a prospect as well.

As for Havelberg, let's not forget he's a key position player who is often asked to do a job in defense, and he's still only 20. Some might not rate him but any forward with clean hands and good finishing skills will be valuable in any team. Having said that he has been down on form this season, so it was good to see him break out of his personal form slump. A little less selflessness and he would have had a chance at the 10.

As for Port, they were simply pathetic. Weak, insipid and lazy. Just another example of the basket case they have become in the modern era of football. The sooner they swallow their pride and look at what other clubs are doing the better for them. Personally, I hope they keep trying to play like it's the 80s because going to Alberton has never been better since Port started losing pathetically there. And the best part was the clapping for the goals they scored in the last quarter! Port fans are now setting their standards so low they actually sounded happy to have kicked a few when the game was over as if that was a victory of some sort!
