Maybe he realised that he didnt want to give it up just yet, although why he would not go back to Sturt who knows?

To say I am completely baffled by this would be grossly understating my feelings.

I personally do not see any real benefit for player or club. Tim gave many years of great service to the SFC, played in a premiership, won a Magarey, participated in numerous finals campaigns and generally bled Double Blue. He was informed at the start of the year that he would be starting in the reserves and would need to earn a place in the senior side. Now on one hand there was a newspaper article where Tim himself suggested he finished up because he made a promise to himself that when time was being called, he wouldn't see benefit in playing in the reserves and preventing a youngster coming through. On the other hand it has become apparent he still believes he is good enough to play league footy.

The fact of the matter is he was a contracted/required player at he SFC.

As for Norwood, I would be interested to hear what some of their supporters think (Constance?). What benefit does Trevor Hill see Tim bringing to the club?

I have an enormous amount of respect for 'Soccers' but I can't help but feel he is doing the wrong thing here. I do however wish him luck although I certainly am not looking forward to seeing him in a red and blue jumper in a few weeks time....... It just won't look right.

One presumes he will be in the reserves for his debut at Prospect this week? What if Norwood have a big win and he is forced to spend at least another week playing in the early game? Surely the Norwood coaching staff haven't made guarantees? If so what message does that send to the whole Norwood playing list and more importantly what does it do to moral and support for the coach when 2008 has been and continues to look like being a bit of a struggle?

I look forward to some further discussion.......

PS I am not sure why people still believe his Father is at Norwood, Mick finished his involvement at the end of 2007.

Excellent post MST, and unfortunately one I'm unable to answer as I can't (ever) for the life of me, figure out the thought processes of our brainstrust.

Unfortunately I think this smacks purely of Tim trying to prove a point to Rick MacGowan.

I wouldn't wish Tim ill if he continued on with any club let alone my own, so I hope he succeeds, but the only reason I can think for our club picking him up, is a realistic acknowledgement that finals are too far away this season, and to pass on some experience and knowledge to our younger lads ... That said, if you really were to believe finals were gone wouldn't you be getting as many games into the kids as possible?

Thats the bit that makes this so confusing.

I've discussed it ad nauseum with fellow Red and Blues so have probably done this topic to death ... All I will finish by saying is that I'll afford Tim the respect and support as I would any Norwood player, coach or official and would expect other Legs fans will do the same, irrespective of whether we think Tim's inclusion was the best move forward for the club.

Thanks for the response CP. Totally agree with regards to Tim wanting to prove a point to Rick, although with due respect to Tim I reckon Rick has much bigger fish to fry and it will be water off a ducks back.

Further to what I have already said, I just wonder how great an influence other people in Tim's life (family/friends) had on him doing an about face......

good to see norwood out of debt so start wasting their money on a has been. Surely they would be better off playing some kids than this bloke. Norwood would be better saving their money for some club rooms

Very good post MST (as was CP's reply). Both Weatherald and Norwood smack of desperation in this matter IMO. If Weatherald's motivation is to stick it up MacGowan then that is no reason to "resume" your career and whilst I suspect that is on the money to a degree, there must surely be more to it than that? But as MST pointed out, he has achieved more than the majority of players have or will and over a long and distinguished career but this move could make him look silly in the end.

P.S. He clearly didn't give the G-Train a call re silly comebacks!

Perspective
Hopefully i have the facts right

PRESEASON
Tim does the preseason training ready for another season with the Blues
The blues after a very good 2007 are a chance to win the flag in 2008
Tim would be enthusiastic about playing
He is then told he will have to earn his spot starting in the Bs
This would be a kick in the pants for a Magery M ed AL ist
Then whether its pride or whatever he retires from football

NOW
Tim quit prematurely
Would be still fit doing a pre season
He realises he only quit becoz of a situation and not to do with passion
Understandably he gets itchy feet and wants to play footy again
He cant go back to Sturt
He finds a club that is willing to take him on

SUMMARY
I cant blame Tim for making a comeback, footballers are a long time retired ....WHY NOT
Sturt had made a decision based on what they believe was right...CANT BLAME STURT
Norwood by taking on a M ed AL ist is bringing experience + knowledge to the club...WHY NOT

Cant see anything wrong with the individual and the 2 clubs in whats transpired.

I think MAL's "preseason, now, summary" post sums up how I imagine the process to have happened.
Hard for me to imagine Tim playing for any other club except Sturt though. He's one of those that help bring the club back from the brink. So though I have mixed feelings about this I feel compelled to wish him luck all the same.
I'm gonna sit back, crack the top off a Pale Ale, and watch the Double Blues prevail

to all the supporters of SAFooty, Sturtpeter was spotted with a Norwood scarf on last friday night, if the moderators allow it, some photos will get posted soon.

And maybe one of his Port Power beanie he wore to Unley on Saturday?

I want to write my thoughts but due to loyalty, I won't.

Tim bled Sturt through and through.

His family is Model. His Dad's a generous, appropriate Life Member of Sturt :D :D

I love Sturt. I like Norwood. Enuf said.

Spot on Mal.

I think a lot of people lose sight at times that football is a game. We treat it like it is the be-all and end-all of the universe, but it's not. It's a game.

Tim wants to play football at the highest level possible, he couldn't do that at Sturt so he has chosen another club to play for. The club he chose welcomes him, and that's really all that matters.

Personally, I am rapt Tim will be wearing the Norwood jumper. I don't care if it's only for a short while, I don't care if he recaptures peak form, I only care that he enjoys his time at Norwood and we find some benefit in him playing.

There was a post earlier that said a man must know his limitations. I think that is what Tim is trying to do. He wants to see if he can still contribute at a league level, and I congratulate him for trying.

One thing is for certain, we know Tim will give us what he has. It's his trademark.

i know every person is different but peter 'max' maynard thought he made a mistake playing the extra year with wwt & in hindsight would rather have been a one team player & that's not taking anything away from wwt because as he said to me they did everything for him, i hope for tims sake down the track he doesn't wish the same

fwiw i actually think tim would be back into the sturt league team by if he had stuck at it
i thought secret groups were a thing of the past, well not on websites anyway
