In today's paper the article by Ali Carle says it all about the footy community as the NFC, SAFC and indeed the posters on this site have proven this week.

The Blake and Davis's families can take some comfort in knowing that they are in our thoughts and that the whole footy community does care.

I think what I've already posted on the Legs forum will suffice for this one too.

Although I don't know Lee or his family my thoughts and hopes are with them at this dificult time and also with those of you who do know him.

From what I have seen on here and been told he is a true example of strength and courage...most of us could barely cope with fighting his fight once.

If anything positive can be taken I guess it would be that at least by knowing your fate you and your loved ones have been given the chance to say all the things you want to say to each other...something that is often denied to others.

Well done to the Legs tonight - hopefully brings some joy to Lee - If he listened to the game tonight he would have really enjoyed the win.

Ground staff painted no 41 on the surface tonight - and the team won. I understand that time now is very precious for the Blake family.

I think he played 4 league and 33 reserves games - few get the opportunity to wear a league guernsey and he has been to battle in it.

Hopefully Lee's remaining time will be peaceful and fulfilling - all the best mate.

The posts from this site about Lee have been printed out and were going to be given to him but unfortunately Lee is now so sick and is unconscious that he couldn't read them.
Im afraid its just a matter of time and I'd like to think and hope that he was aware of Norwood's win against the odds tonight for him as he inspired them to a great game.
Life just isn't fair. :(

Thanks to Baldy who was printing them out and willing to deliver them to Lee.

From Warky on the Redlegs Forum:

Blakey died at 4.40am this morning. He was surrounded by family and friends when he passed away.

The Legs won a game but lost a son tonight.

RIP Blakey. No more pain now.

The battle is over. So glad Norwood got up for him last night over the arch enemy. I'm sure somehow he knew. Only know about him through this site, but clearly he was an inspiration to all. Feel for his wife, family and friends. RIP.

Terrible news :( . goodbye to a great bloke, He was only a member of the PNU family for a very short time and although I only met him a couple of times, I know was training hard and was keen to play in the PNU jumper this year before he took ill again.

PNU will be donning the black arm bands for Lee today..

On behalf of the Payneham Norwood Union Football Club we send our sympathy to his partner and family.

RIP :(

Lee had the joy of hearing The Norwood Club Song sung in the rooms after the match via his wife Sheree's mobile phone! If I could go out being surrounded by so much love and feeling as Blakey has been shown that would be a special gift.
RIP mate, no more pain.

That brings a tear to the eye.
Man, what a place that changeroom would've been after the game.

Rest in peace Lee. Life isn't fair and we will never know why. I remember you as an exceptionally brave man who came to a very lowly country club a few years back to play footy, being too sick to play at a high level. You loved the game and couldn't bear to be away from it and we welcomed you proudly. I remember the day you were too ill to finish the game, yet still apologised to your team-mates for not being there for them, and for occupying a spot someone else could have had. Yet we lost by 40 goals, as we usually did. God bless you Lee. You were the grassroots of football.
Older, wiser and been there. But still love that grassroots country footy.
