5 to 10 goal better side? :?

Guess the dogs have the flag wrapped up then when they come back

Dutchy, to talk flags is foolish at this stage of the season. However, take three leaders of that calibre out of any side and I would think it would make a pretty big difference to them. How would the Glenelg team fare if you took out Backwell, McConnell and Allen? Would it make a five goal difference to the team?

Cheers

People are rating Allen now  ...shhhh do'nt tell everyone

bulldogproud wrote:Bosvit, it is not that. It is just that we have the confidence that the boys will still be there at season end so there is nothing to worry about. Glenelg have been touted as Premiership Favourite after their disposal of Sturt last week. Many pundits expected Central to lose by 5-10 goals today, particularly with the loss of Chris Gowans, Ian Callinan and Paul Thomas. The fact we only lost by 3 points (despite playing a shocker of a first quarter) has us quietly confident at this stage. We have made slow starts to the season in a number of our premiership years so we still think the boys will be around the mark come finals time. Personally, I do not think there is much to separate any of Glenelg, North, Sturt, the Eagles and Central at this stage. Port also cannot be dismissed yet. Only time will tell.

True, but at least you were having scoring shots -into the breeze!
We couldn't get it to our targets up forward - seemed to have no system at all in the first quarter. That is what I call shocking. :)

agree with just about everything said but i'll add glenelg would have to improve a lot to go deep in the finals because with cd missing 3 key players & to be so brave when it looked like glenelg running away with it a couple of times they found a way to get back into it, i was always confident of winning through the game apart from the last 10 minutes of the 3rd & the first 5 minutes of the last term
i thought secret groups were a thing of the past, well not on websites anyway

Brilliantly said Bulldogproud,

By no means would any team be talking premierships at this stage, it would be ludicrious to do so. The competition seems as tight as it has been for quite a few years now and i think it's due to the fact that other teams are slowly reaching higher standards as well as the Dogs levelling out just slightly. I think your point Dutchy is a tadd of the mark, because if on song and at his best, Ian Callinan can be a match winner with his own boot and is more than capable of kicking between 5 and 7 goals regularly despite beong quiet (and injured) in recent weeks. We certainly missed Nutta out there today but if you throw in Chris Gowans who can kick 3,4 or 5 himslef and Thommo kicking the odd goal here and there playing on ball, before you know it Dutchy, you have those 5 - 10 goals BulldogProud was talking about. You see what I'm saying mate...

Anyway, I better get stuck into typing up my match reports now, I guess I will be back on here later tonight with my final edits...

ps, roy lairds move of schell up forward (an obvious one) in the 3rd quarter is the best move i've seen from a coach this year as it actually turned the game in that quarter but he (schell) was quiet in the last

Big Phil, it is not just the goals they kick. It is the way that, as leaders, they marshall the troops. We seemed to struggle with developing a system today. Normally our younger guys would look to Thomas, Gowans and Callinan for advice and leadership.

fair call.
I think once the tigers actually realise they can be a good team, they will be 5-10 goals better, much like centrals over the last few years. It didnt seem to bother them to much who was in or out of the side. Winning = confidence......and we all know how much confidence centrals have had.... :)

Great game to watch, and a top crowd at the Bay. I suspect these two sides will go deep into the season. Congatulations to the Bays, and to Schell on an awesome display to get us back into it in the third.

I corrected myself earlier. Yes, it was 'Delta'. I think I had Dutschke on my mind because of the good game he played today.

a great game of footy that matched the north game late in 2006 and the port game august 12 last year - it had everything and the result was special from our point of view. i thought apart from our kicking for goa that our first qtr was brilliant along with the first 15 minutes of the second when we looked like we would blow central away, but being the great side that they are they halted our run and dug deep to stay in the game at half time. Third qtr was iffy from our point of view, some mistakes in the back half and the dogs relentless pressure and never say die attitude gave us a wake up call and them in with a real chance going into the last. We should have wrapped the game up leading up to time on in the last but some relatively easy misses kept them in the game. I have read that they had 3 first choice players out, whether that contributed to them losing who's to know, we had 3 first choices out against the eagles in r2 but still won comfortably so thats just bad luck. Take nothing away from glenelgs effort today, we were bloody good - as royal city said the umpiring was good, but only if you were a doggie fan, they were bloody atrocious from a bay point of view. GO THE TIGES!! we have arrived - make no mistake about that, dismiss us at your peril.

ps. cheap shot of the day went to.......who else but #28 J Gowans, the guy is a sniper and his his punching of matty bode in the middle of his back in the last quarter was typical of the way the guy acts, pissweak and pathetic - i dont undestand why a guy with his skill has to resort to those tactics
Go The Tiges!!!

Stampy, you mustn't have seen the even cheaper shot Bodey had at James thirty seconds before. James simply retaliated.
Also please note that the Eagles had no less than 7 first choice players out when they played Glenelg. The return of most of these players has seen the Eagles improve their form so much that they easily discounted for Sturt yesterday.
