Thanks Thiele, what type of player is he? Midfielder?

yes

I think you might find that he is the son of Kevin Morris who coached us and has been assistant coach at the Bombers and a couple of other AFL clubs.

He certainly looks a talent and would have to be in contention for the draft.

Good write up Macca.

I would have to agree with redandblack about Brown especially in the first half. I thought Maric had the best of the ruck in the first half and Port got the clearances it needed early. Neaves put in a better effort this week but the timing of his jumps at the centre bounce in the first half was appalling, but he improved in the second half and although Port flogged us in the 3rd quarter Neaves won the tap and we looked to win the clearances (statistician required..LOL).

Some other performances that I noticed were Daniel Elstone had some very important touches especially in the third where he stripped us of the ball twice on the outer wing and was able to find the running player with ease and he had quite a few useful knock ons to Port players in the clear, the sort of think that does not show in the stats.

As mentioned Krakouer's pace killed us. His foot skills at pace can be a bit up and down but if you don't want him we will have him any day

Ben Fisher for Westies was good I thought especially in the first half and took some telling marks for such a little fella.

Jeremy Rowe put good pressure on a much taller opponent in Waterhouse but his decision making when he has possession is something he needs to work on.

It was an interesting tussle in the first quarter with Port on top around the clearances and Brown dominating in defence. Hargraves was well on top up forward if Port could get the ball over their half forward line. West's delivery into the forward line (apart from Brown) was something that needed to be seen to be believed with hospital ball after hospital ball getting belted forward. Sal Hassan finished the quarter with 0.3 and an out of bounds, all of which were very getable and two from set shots I believe. Port were within a point at quarter time due to their better skill level and the efforts of Hargraves.

The second quarter was much the same with Neaves still unable to time his jump in the middle, an increase in skill errors from West and Ports runners starting to come into the game. They looked to carry the ball a little further before passing off, trying to kick over our dominant half back line.

The third quarter lost the game for the Bloods more than won it for the Magpies IMO. With 3 kicks from Westies that hit Port players on the chest (I was counting) that resulted in goals before we touched it again. It was hard to watch and the players looked to go into shock a bit and started looking more scared of loosing than determined to win. Neaves improved as did Giles but Brown and Morris faded a bit for West while Krakouer, Elstone and Perry lifted for Port. Both teams missed easy goals and West were lucky to be left with a slight chance in the last.

West came out full of determination in the last especially Cupido who looked to be very fired up and in with a chance of winning it all by himself. He even had to ruck against Maric a couple of times in our forward lines early in the last quarter as Neaves was spent and they were sorting out who was going to relieve him (having lost Moran in the first), he did some excellent work around the stoppages but our other midfielders in Ezard, who just bombed it forward off of one step every time he got it in the second half, and Bailey, who's foot skills are so poor it is an embarassment, just burnt it for us. We may have been given an extra goal from a stupid Matthew Lokan free but we should have kicked an extra 3 early on, but Port kept their composure and deserved the win.

Port hit their target far more often than the Bloods did when it mattered. We should change our name to the West Adelaide Burners IMO.

Clayton was good BUZZ but so was Hargs, 7.2 & 1 out on the full he certainly made the most of his opportunities.
I still don't think Port played aswell as they can, their side was alot stronger Sat than when they played North 2wks before, maybe Westies have improved.

Hargy was BOG in my opinion, Westies arnt that bad, Port arnt that good either so it was definately a battle of the lower places, the mini league was a better standard.............

Their not that good at the moment but i think they have a very good balance there as far as height & smalls are concerned, they just have to get their balance & put it together week in week out, a little bit inconsistant at the moment this early in the season.

Have never seen a better line up, Hargy, Waterhouse and Achee up forward, where they fell down was with their smaller players, no crumbers underneath these guys all day.

How about Biachi up fwd as a crumbing small instead of on a wing, i think he's to small for a wingman.

Did Krakouer play on the wing? That may have been why Biagi wasn't playing in his usual position, and if he is to get a call up to the AFL i'd be surprised if he (Biagi) didn't go back there.

Stephen Morris is the son of ex coach Kevin Morris, not Geoff Morris. Surprisingly Kevin was a coach of West Adelaide who left the club under controversial circumstances...how unusual.

hi macca i had a look at port ressies play on the weekend and number 51 young wilkey looked very good of the half back flank, he kicked two goals and would of had around 20 touchs. I noticed him dominate a couple of weeks back. when i check in the newspaper he isnt getting much recognition but you have been putting him in the best aswell as i would. Who does the best players for the newspaper and do they even watch the game?
