Wasnt the best game of SANFL you will see. Centrals have nobody else to blame but themselves. They left the door open for a comeback with ordinary kicking at goal in the first half. When the game could of been dead and buried IMHO. Well played to North who took the most of their chances at the end of the day to make a game of it.

Whilst the umpiring was techincal all day it didn't stop the best team winning on the day.

Saw a bit on tv, the ground looked in a deplorable state, it looked dry, grey, and sandy. Can anyone at the game comment on it?

Anyhow getting back to Football:

After watching the game live and also the replay I was pretty pleased with North's effort overall but silly mistakes, decisions with disposals under pressure coughed up some easy goals to Centrals who as we know kill you with that sort of stuff.

The umpiring was average both ways and some bafflers paid each way but in the end no influence on the game. The replay vindicates that if the Centrals supporters think they got the rough end of the deal???

North had a even contribution all day but just fell short for a number of factors.

Centrals poor kicking but we also kicked poorly in the first quarter so that did'nt help with the margin either at 1/4 time - in the end both coaches will be organiing goal kicking practice from set -shots. Jars seemed none too impressed at 1/4 time on the TV and made his point to the offending players.

Swapping and changing the backline all day didn't help. I thought Macca did a pretty good job but may have been moved onto Havelberg and Schuey probably should have got Lawry. Grose would have been handy as the third tall today down back as Cunningham and Brown give away too much height. Allewey played well at CHB but I prefer to see him at CHF but if the ball is struggling to get down there I guess he is more use down back? Walker showed some good signs today and should be better for the run in weeks to come.

I thought we did pretty well in the rucks all day but again we need another ruckman so we can settle Stewart in at FF or FP. The onballers did okay with Allan, O'Brien and Archard leading all possession getters according to the ABC stats but Archard just needs to tighten up his disposal at times.

There are 2 or 3 players I think that are struggling and playing on reputation - Wintle and Brett White are lucky being the Capt and Vice Capt. they are both out of form, slow and coughed up some poor disposals today. Poor turnovers and disposal at critical times hurt us and it is clear from watching the reply the crucial ones that hurt us either when we went into attack or coughed it up in defence.

Still considering we had a few quality outs in Ward,Motlop, Clarke and Ladhams we still haven't quite settled the side. Speaking about Lads - he is going to miss upto 6 weeks with a buldging disc in his neck so his loss may be felt over the coming weeks. The good thing about to today is we appeared to come out injury free for a change.

2-2 is still not great but all considered re a spluttery start and injuries it is not all doom and gloom. We must beat South next week and then hopefully show some balls this year against the bays.

I am "bambozzled" as to how Thomas won the Bob Quinn Medal as BOG - he looked suprised on the TV when it was announced! I thought Sullivan or one of the Gowans (hate to admit that!) should have got it.

As for the ABC commentators and their special comments bloke - "The Weed", a very anti-North call by all at times with selective pro -Centrals comments all game. They basically gave no credit to North for gettign back in the game. As for the "Weed" - Surely they can get someone as special comments analyst who actually completed primary school???

Final comment - poor crowd but I suppose when Anzac Day falls on a Friday or Monday turning the break into a long weekend then many people opted out and went away. Surely North and Centrals could have mustered more than 4300??? There would have been a bigger crowd at Elizabeth I fear today but less North people would have gone.

To the Centals supporter who said that to my brother in law, well done mate, smart timing that sort of unAustralian comment to a service man on Anzac Day who barracks for neither side while Im interstate.
I chose not to be there today and a smart decision it was as I would have ended up in jail.
Thank christ my kids avoid these games by choice through their own limited experiences and werent there.
Great effort North, didnt personally think theyd get within 10 goals.

Back to the game.

Centrals played 3 pretty good quarters of football. The third quarter, I'm not sure what happened, but they fought it out and held on for a hard fought win.

Umpiring was a disgrace. 6 of North's goals came from frees. If you're relying on the umpires of two-thirds of your goals (whether they're valid or not), you're not going to win many games. It was that bad I thought Tony Dey, Damian Joyce and Sam Hay were going to win the Bob Quinn medal - and I hear rumours they're officiating the Thunderbirds game on Sunday

Very disappointing crowd, especially as Centrals moved the game to Adelaide for a bigger crowd. IMO, the crowd would have been similar, if not more, at Hamra Homes Oval.

As a neutral observer, I watched the game on TV, and didn't think the umpiring was all that bad. A few soft frees, but not much else wrong. Centrals were very undisciplined, as they were against Sturt.
I thought the game was not of a very high standard either.
Both Centrals & North look like they are still warming up, and their best form is still some time away. It will come at the right time of the season & look out everyone when it does.
Well done Centrals, holding off a charging North who probably wish there was no end to the third quarter as their momentum stopped with 3/4 time.

Agree Les. Two sloppy turnovers gifted Centrals two early goals, and it was all over when they got the third.
Still most was expecting a 10 goal drubbing. Centrals had a bit more in the tank but how much influence did the gruesome twosome have. Will be missed at Centrals when they finally hang up the boots.

I'm not sure that it would have helped the crowd, the past few years the game has been mid week, a lot would have taken the oppotunity to get away for the long weekend this year. I was at the march from 9am and a lot of nuetral supporters commented that they would be going to the game after the march as it was right next door.
The biigest factor in the dissapointing crowd IMHO was the long weekend.

To say the umpiring was "average "is an understatement, bad both ways. They certainly understand the rules ( or Laws for the pedants among us ) but they don't understand "the game" ie. they are too technical on issues where the supposed infringement does not affect the passage of the ball, are they following the AFL ? It sure looks like it and personally I think its a bad move. One of them was a very good junior footballer and should have a "feel" for the game but he seems to have lost it. On watching the game when I got home hope fully "Weed" was only there because there was no-one else available, no wonder he didn't last long as a coach !!!!!!
