They are in the final 5 ... !!!

At least they are having a dip as they lead at 1/4 time in thier games.

My advice is when the skipper wins the toss he points one way and when Damian is not looking point the other way, DC will end up where he belongs.

WA best forward line

THIELE ....CUPIDO.....GRAY

CAIRE......WILLETTS...COORONG

Sadly 3 of those guys have not played up forward this season ...

THIELE
Be patient
Andy is a coach with a very good reputation
Like Carlton have, you just need to win a game to kick start the season
The last 2 weeks v GL/EG West have matched them for 3 of the 4 qtrs in each game
PS : In my selected forward line make sure you get Cupido/Gray leading up the ground to give you room

CUPIDO
I have talked or chatted to about 10 WA barrackers and about 10 opposition barrackers
Not one person has agreed with Cupido playing in defence
Time to attack.

Round 1st Quarter Final Score Opponent
Rd1 bye bye bye
Rd2 4.4 9.11 Norwood
Rd3 5.3 9.7 South
Rd4 2.3 9.13 Glenelg
Rd5 4.5 9.13 Eagles

Scary thing is these teams are the ones we actually had a chance to beat.
Not looking forward to the second half of the draw.

Looking at the 1st quarter scored we do have the ability to score if we playing attacking football. I think the morale is at a pretty deep low considering some of the postions the team has been in, in regards to winninbg the game especially against South where we were 30 points up at quarter time.

i have to admit, i was one of the westie supporters telling every body about our new coach and recruits, i thought we might of had a win by now, even though i did not expect instant sucsess, i agree with otc about cupido, its realy a catch 22 for andy collins, we need him in both positions at the moment. we also need a few of the recruits to step up and be counted

Stranger things have happenned footy fans...

First home win could come this week against the Dogs, unlikely admitted, but you never know...

Interesting to read in today Advertiser that Andy Collins had already made the tough decision and thinking about his playing list for 2009 only 7 rounds into 2008 !!?? It's sad for Bloods fans, I guess after a bit of success in early 2000's, including the LEague GF in '03, they have been pretty lonely at the foot of the table for the last few years now. I'm sure ALL West Adelaide fans are sick and tired of winning wooding spoons, I know I would be, of course...

I would think the club wouldn't have had any unrealistic expectations of a hugely succesful 2008 with all the new faces coming in, but no doubt they would have never imagined it to be this bad to date and would be having horrible cases of dejavu. Some say they have probably been worst hit in terms of young talent being drafted into the AFL but it just seems that every year they don't recruit a quality FULL FORWARD who can give them a focal point for all the decent on ballers they recruit instead, giving them an option to find when coming out if defence and the through the middle. Although some fans are pleading for Cupido to play up forward, I don't think he is the complete answer to kick more than 9 goals and finally win a game. I rate Cupido and think that he is playing in defence more out of neccessity rather than by the coach's choice.

Think about it, the last time the Bloods were winning a few comes consistantly was when they had BIG ex Crow Adam Richardson and then also Daniel Bradshaw's brother (sorry, his first name escapes me right now). I think Westies get bagged a bit too much for not showing faith in their youth but I guess to a degree they probably recruit heavily as insurance in case they end up losing the young lads to the draft, as proven in the past. I'm not putting my point of view across because I'm some Doggies fan gloating in all our recent success, more so to the fact that we kind of know the feeling having had our fair share of lean times, as all clubs do. I guess it also depends on the quality of the recruit you bring over as well and of course, there are plenty of examples from the Doggies where they have attributed to our success. Every team will go through tough times in the bottom half of the competition, I guess some just for longer periods of times than others. Look at the Double Blues for example, it can only get better from here for Westies fans, I know it's tough, but your time will come, eventually. (and I hope so)

In saying that though, I'm sorry, but I really hope we pump you guys this week as we probably need a real dominant kind of game for 4 quarters to increase our confidence a little further. I just think we need to go into this game though, a little cautious of the wounded Bloods, no doubt the boys would be embarrased (you would hope) by their performance on the weekend and will certainly come out with a lot more fire in the belly. I guess that all well and good but you have to have the quality to go with that as well to get a result and of course no disrespect, I just think the Dogs have superior class and skill pretty much across the whole ground. My tip would be Centrals by 45 - 60 points but depends on the weather as well, might be a bit tighter if the predicted showers do come on Saturday.

GO U DOGGIES...

Not seeing West every week, it's hard to imagine why Cupido is playing in defence. If he was playing really well back there you could perhaps understand, but listening to the 5RPH call of the game last week they were very critical of Cupido as a defender and asking why he wasn't played up forward.

Collins obviously sees something we can't, but I have to admit it does seem strange.

west are going in with a different plan this week cupido at full forward but standing about 30 metres out from goal, willits at chf standing next to the centre square & the rest are all in defence bar the 4 in the middle

well at least that way when they go forward they'll be a better chance at scoring a goal or 9
i thought secret groups were a thing of the past, well not on websites anyway

I will try and be objective about Damian Cupido

Perhaps he is playing as a defender becoz he has a groin or leg related injury ?
Playing in defence allows DC to run at the ball without turning as much as a forward
He did have what appeared to be a groin problem in the WA V SA trial game just b4 rd 1
Perhaps he is carrying an injury prob and this trial injury was a clue to being a defender

BUT

He is a very capable forward and a genuine goalkicker
He has the potential to be a 50-80 goal forward at WA if injury free
So on face value he might be wasted being the FOOL back

SUMMARY

DC playing at FOOL back is the equivilant of Matt Hayden batting at number 9 for Australia

Damian Cupido is playing down back because he is a good defender and he works hard down back. However, as a forward he does not work hard enough and he is not a FF he can be a successful 2nd forward as he was at South. He is not tall enough to be the target and unless he is getting pin point delivery( which with our current side couldn't happen) he will not kick 2 goals a game. WAFC is gaining more out of him as a backman than we could as a forward in this side. If we had a big burly FF and Cupido was a 2nd option then he would be a very good forward who could kick 60 odd goals in a year. Those who have seen WAFC this year would see his value down back, as with Brown they are setting up 90% of our attacks off their own boots.

It makes sense to play Cupido in the back lines - it puts him where the ball will be most of the match
