Rd 4 2008 South v Sturt @ Noarlunga

All discussions to do with the SANFL

If South show the hardness at the ball they displayed in the first 2 weeks they will be competitive. Good test for guys like Turner, Bennett and Thewlis who have all had good years up against Chambers, Perrie etc. South midfielders have to ensure there is pressure on the ball entry into Sturt's forward line or it could be a repeat of the Unley game last year.

Be interesting to see how McGlone goes. have a feeling he'll rack up a few kicks :? Out of interest, does anybody know the last time a B+F winner at a SANFL club suited up for another SANFL club the following year?

My head says Sturt, but I still have confidence 8)
SAFC- 60 years...
StKFC- 58 years..

Good question. I reckon Heath Culpitt would have been runner up in Glenelg's B&F before transferring to Norwood.

Was McGlone one of the money hungry bad eggs we had to get rid of to move forward or did he leave for other reasons?

South did not play too well against he bloods, and maybe we took them a bit lightly wich is a big mistake. We played no where near as good as the previous two weeks performances.
I am sure Jack will get it into their heads that a performance anywhere near that will result in a definate loss!
We do have a very inexperienced line up in terms of SANFL league games played so it is going to take some time to build this team.South really need another good forward and maybe a small crumbing forward/ midfielder, but I must say players like James Boyd, Sammy Elliot and James Turner are showing they have what it takes at league level.Boyd was the catalyst for the win against the bloods. He has good skills and is pretty nippy around the ground,I shouldnt make comparisons but he reminds me of Mark Naley.
Bring on Sturt,I dont expect miracles just an honest effort! :)

This is the fourth straight week that Sturt has played an undefeated opponent, and we remain undefeated ourselves. Has this ever happened before where one side has played 4 weeks in a row in games where both sides have been undefeated? I'll ask Spelly on the history forum if no one knows here. He usually likes quirky stats.

Sturt should beat South, yet there has been something foreboding in the way South has won their games. I think this game is as big a test for Sturt's resolve as it is for South, as I am expecting a different type of opponent to those we have played already. Norwood were pathetic, the Dogs were underdone and don't care about the early rounds, North were also underdone, but South... here is an opponent much like Sturt was in the early rounds last year. Here is an opponent ready to punch above its weight with the belief they can beat any side. I have respect for such an opponent but I am hoping they come crashing back to Earth this weekend. If Sturt play with resolve we should have no problems.

South at the end of the year had a clean out with players being asked to give 100% to the jumper in 2008.....McGlone was not one of them. A better deal ($) was offered at Sturt......
Is out of change.....thanks Cambridge Clarrie!!!

would much rather thommo than the pea heart pearce. When the going gets tough pearce's number is no where to be seen. doesnt fit in at sturt this year in regards to work ethic and mental/physical toughness. which rick has instilled in the BLUES the past year.

Pretty harsh there I would have thought. Your name suggests you are a Sturt supporter but the sentiments would make me question that.

Danyle Pearce is a Sturt man through and through and just because certain football 'experts' in the Adelaide media have used him as a scapegoat for the Power's poor form, does not mean a NAB Rising Star goes from being a good player to a bad one. Sure Thommo is a tremendous & fearless talent and he will be missed but the depth at our club means we will more than adequately cope with his loss.

If indeed Pearcey does line up with the Blues this Saturday I predict you will be eating your words come 5pm.

Poor form.

I probably was a little harsh MST but get frustrated by talented footballers who dont put there head over the footy. My undoubted passion for the sturt football club should not be questioned i am fairly young i can say that when i was a small child i would go to watch sturt loose by 100 points regularly still supporting every kick mark and sometimes we would score haha
I hope i am eating my words and he racks up 30 possies, bags a few goals and sturt win by 10 goals(if infact he does get dropped). Definately will be supporting him dont get me wrong and feel sorry that the other soft port players dont get a mention.
