Sturt has learnt people from outside the Club Scene have been more successful at Unley than e.g. Rick Davies. A champion bloke doesn't necessarily equate to a good Senior Coach.

E.G. Ebert, Robran etc.

I hope Tim is at least given more time as he is undoubtedly popular down at Alberton.

eberts record at woodville wasn't bad & from memory i think they did win a 'night grand final' under ebert ? as for robran it wasn't a good north team to start with as most of the early 70's great players had retired etc, well at least thats how my memory remembers it  but i do agree that great/champion players don't necessarily make good coaches

He'll be the next coach of the Bombers.

You got to be joking Dog, where did they finish last year, Port that is?
Hasn't done any better than Knights, yet has had better personnel & more time.

Knights had a terrible (or non-existent) game plan. As far as I'm concerned he was lucky to last the year. He was always far too slow to make changes. He let a game slip against Sturt at Adelaide Oval with his complete apathy. And he came directly from a club with a losing culture with no coaching experience.

Tim has no experience either, but he is a winner, and at least we are trying to play the right sort of stuff. The issue is the execution of basic skills. We need proper skills coaches and concentration on the basics like kicking at goal and accurate disposal.

No mirrors allowed in Rushby's house FA, it could end the beautiful delusion.
I hate Port and I know HATE is a strong word but not strong enough for my thoughts on Port, however I think they've done reasonably well since being shafted by Port junior in '97. It's all a bit too Freudian if you ask me, but who did! It seems they don't have much to work with and as a Sturt supporter I understand the situation so I think to start a thread about their coaches' demise is a bit rich after 2 games.
It should be treated with the respect that it and the author deserves.....nnooooooo biiinnngggooooooo!

Port AND the Bays actually. Do some research before you post...

Glenelg
D Noble (2003-04)
P Simmons (2005)
T Burgess (2005)
Mark Mickan (2006-Current)

Port
Stephen Williams (1997-2003)
Matthew Knights (2004)
John Cahill (2005)
Tim Ginever (2006-current)

But look at this...

K Hodgeman (1991-1992)
Mark Williams (1993-1994)
T Symonds (1995-1996)
W Stringer (1997)
Tony McGuinness (1998-2000)

We just cant seem to go that 5% extra needed to win matches. Hell, last year we lost something like 6 or 7 games by under 2 goals. In most of those, we had our chances to win the game by either keeping hold of the ball/defending, or having numerous shots on goal which would have put us in front.

I havent been a massive fan of Tims coaching, but ive seen signs that he could be a good coach and could get this club to a GF. I mean, Timmy cant go out there and kick the ball for Hargraves. You put faith in players, you expect them to deliver the goods when the pressure is on. Unfortunately, there were 3-4 players who muffed their chance in front of goals in that last quarter, all from gettable shots/distances.

On the other hand, because we do seem to fall this 5% short often, maybe the Magpies do need to find a coach that will take them that extra step further and win these tight games.

Hargraves is copping a bit of flack...he won you guys a couple of games off his own boot last year. On Saturday even the brilliant Jeremy Clayton kicked 0.4 .

Correct Macca, but remove the basic errors and we'd gain 20%.

Tim's style is fine (perhaps even good) but he needs to get the skills up. The talk is 200% better than last year though which is a good sign...

Agree totally. On his day he is still a match winner.

Exactly Fatal, Knights was a dud at Alberton. His game plan was pathetic, very slow, chip sideways, short kick, slow running Richmond style of game. He shouldn't have lasted as long at the club as he did. The only good thing that happened during his time was the arrival of Dipper and Elstone.

With Timmy G, he deserves time. His actual coaching I cant really fault, I like our style of play, and while initially he seemed a little reactive with his coaching moves, he has improved a lot there. He hasn't had half the quality of players that many Port coaches past have had.

Apart from our kicking at goal on the weekend, we were very good, dominating the general play for the majority of the match, but couldn't hurt South on the scoreboard, which when they had the run of play, they did.

Mark my words people, PORT ADELAIDE WILL MAKE THE FINALS THIS YEAR
