Agreed, and how could Luke Jarred from the eags miss out on selection???

I don't know about a shoe in... Think he's a VERY good player BUT is just a tad over rated at times. Can be brilliant one week, very average the next. Just don't reckon he has a very strong defensive game BUT it is just IMO people... !!!

Because of my obvious biast, I had Luke Cowan there but I guess based on the fact that Luke didn't play ANY footy for about 10 months I guess Alleway would be the more logical pick. I just like the spectacular style of play Luke Cowan brings to a game. He takes the big marks (as does Alleway) but crashes the packs a lot harder than Clint (again IMO) and creates more opportunities for the little guys under his feet. There probably isn't really anyone else to challenge for the CHF position either, so I guess it will probably be between those 2 guys.

I considered your point about Luke Jarrad and do apologise for not at least putting him on my list of "considered players". I do like his running game and he uses the ball well. I guess he would be competing against his own team mate in Leigh Treeby and Redleg's skipper, James Gallagher for that spot on the wing. I would definately have Leigh picked first because I think out of the 3, he is a more valuable player. Is it bit more poised with the footy and would definately be rated as a "goal kicking" wingman and a good one at that. Think this is important for a wingman.

I only went with Gallagher because of leg speed. I think he is a tad quicker than Luke Jarrad and reckon we need to have a few fleet footed players in the team. If it makes any difference, I would have Luke as my "first emergency" then. Hope you're happy now !!!! ?

Phil, Whilst your entitled to your opinion which is very informed BTW, you need to take your Centrals goggles off for a minute or two - I'll leave my North one's on!!!

Seriously, Alleway was CHF in the Advertiser team of the year in 2007 and was clearly the best CHF in the SANFL. His defensive effort and commitment (which I obviously see more of him than you) are second to none. You would be a brave man to argue that Alleway doesn't hit packs or bust open a game like Cowan does and more than often he is contesting against 2 or 3 opponents simply because of his size and strength. I know who I would back head to head! Whilst Cowan is a very good player - a year out of the game wouldn't help his cause if your picking this years State Team coupled with Alleways last year and a bit would put him in well in first place ahead of Cowan.

Are AFL rookies able to play in the State game? If so, Salter would be a challenge to Alleway for the CHF spot. I don't think Cowan, especially given his season long injury last year, is as good as Alleway.

Slater is an emerging good player but wouldn't be a serious challenge to CHF re a State Game in terms of getting a spot ahead of Alleway or Cowan.

P.S. Don't forget about blokes like Achee who plays well when he goes to CHF - he would be ahead of Salter if he wasn't palying CHB or FB.

Point taken Drebin and I agree in parts, but let's not also forget that Cowan was state CHF a few years ago himself... :)

Absolutely agree (Centrals goggles off here by the way) that for this years team Alleway DESERVES to be picked ahead of Sponge (Luke)

Probably was a bit harsh on Clint's "toughness" and must admit have seen him bust packs (even against us) before. You've convinced me, assistant coach Drebin, Clinton gets the gig now in my team !!! Luke can be an emergency with Luke jarrad then !!! 8)

As for Aeire's points, I agree with both of your points made, to a degree. If AFL rookies are eligible (which I've got a funny feeling they ARE ??) then Salter would definatley be in the mix, probably not CHF though, maybe out of a forward pocket as the extra tall ? The point about Cowan not being as good as Alleway is correct as well. He isn't as good is he, I RECKON HE IS BETTER !!!!!

*lol* from a neutral point of view, a great set of posts. This is why safooty is such a great site, we don't have to knife each other top prove a point. For my 2 bobs worth though I thought Cowan was the better of the 2....

Cowan at full flight IMHO is the best CHF in the SANFL. But Cowan has been out for 10 months and round 1 proved his slightly missing his touch which im sure he will get back.
Alleway has to be the CHF for the state team this year he was light years ahead of any other CHF in the league last year and should be rewarded for his efforts.
IMHO Heath Lawry is slowly making ground and by the end of the year we will be talking about him being in the top3 CHF in the comp.

I believe if they play three or four AFL matches, there goes representative footy for that individual.

I reckon you'd also want to get a feel for the possible Vic lineup first ... I'd imagine our lineup would %80 pick itself, but you need to keep that room for matchups.

Good points there Constance_Perm...

I have kept an eye on the VFL the last couple of years and they do have plenty of running players as well as a couple of bigger lads who look fairly versatile...

I reckon the State selectors will have a few difficult choices to make, taking ALL factors into consideration. Should be interesting, can't wait, I love 'STATE OF ORIGIN'

Will be interesting to see how close my team I made up will be to the actual team in the end ?

I think after the decision to have that All Stars bollocks pretty much drove the nail into Origin for good.

Im glad we don't have origin, Victoria would pummle anyone at the moment, would probably be even worse if it happened at State League level and Victoria could have Alleway, Allen, etc in their side.
Be happy there's a concept we're competitive at as we wouldn't get close in any sort of Origin concept.
